I don’t like it when people have a pop at the Sky Blue Song, maybe it’s just my age bracket but to me that’s always going to be ‘our song’.

I hate it when people say we shouldn't sing it because they personally don't like it.

Its an an anthem. A call to arms. Anthems are about unity amongst a group of people. Its ours, and ours alone. The ultimate sign of loyalty to the cause

Its a shame, because I remember before the play off final one of the players (possibly Liam Kelly) was saying that whenever a new signing joined the recent traumatic history of the club was explained to them, and that because of the hard work of a few people, and the support of the fans that remained, there was still a club for them to play for.

Most of the current crop probably don't get this

People always underestimate the power of a song. I remember after Checkatrade final, coming home and watching it back. At the final whistle you could hear the fans singing the Sky Blue song.
I just remember the commentator saying "Coventry City's famous old anthem fills Wembley again". That line almost brought a tear to my eye. Not sure why, possibly because we were at our lowest point at that moment and it was a link back to our greatest moment. There was just something about it at that moment. Almost like it was the last bit of the club still alive

I agree, I also don’t like it when idiots try and dictate what other people should sing about as if they’re the arbiters of what’s “embarrassing” or not.

Really great listen.

My only surprise is the Jim hadn’t heard of The Enemy 18 months ago!

For my generation (early 30s) The Enemy have always had a strong love amongst the fans. I can remember being in an away end after the first album was released and Away From Here was being sung (changed ‘Here’ to ‘Home’).

Bands like Oasis, Kasabian and The Courteeners have dominated the sound for football fans this century, and to have a group of local lads contributing to that sound was a sense of pride for the city, but was particularly revered among the fan base.

Even after The Enemy lost the spotlight and the band broke up, at any away game in the last 12 years where the pub had a jukebox a fan would put WLADITT once or (usually) twice and everyone would sing along.

And vice-versa, at Tom Clarke’s acoustic shows and their reunion tour in Coventry (and even Birmingham) cov songs are always sang before, during and after the show.

Obviously we needed the success on the pitch for WLADITT to get where it is now, it never would have made it to the ground while we had 11k against Yeovil. But it has for a long time been a part of the match day experience for many of us.
