Leave it out of the fridge for an hour or so before trying to spark it up.

Yeah don’t find it addictive at all, it just helps with anxiety and again I enjoy it. Quit for months at a time before no issues. Have a lot of friends that smoke though and that’s usually how I start again.

Vaping is what did it for me- haven’t had a fag for about 5 years now. But you have to get the right vape- the cheap ones will do nothing for you, got to invest maybe £50 or so and get one that will replicate the hit of a cigarette. I’ve been through a few of them!

Tried that. The best analogy I’ve got is it’s like wanking compared to sex. It’ll take the edge off but still leave you wanting the real thing.

Just a thought @shmmeee, do you smoke indoors? I only ask, because me and the missus used to - it was only the two of us living in a fairly largish house - but we would have visitors, many of who were non-smokers. However, after we'd both given up and we visited a smoker's house, the stale smell was awful! We would cringe thinking our house, which we were proud of, would have had the same odours that non-smokers would smell.

Nah haven’t smoked indoors for years. Ex wife didn’t smoke when I met her (started at 32 the muppet) so always been the back garden.

Now I’m on my own I rent and can’t smoke inside anyway. Still went out and had a cup of tea on the back step like I was having a fag this morning!

Day one down though, I’m still here. Just getting a little snippy with people.

Giving regular updates on here is a good thing. It will give you an incentive. And you HAVE to be honest, even if you had just a couple of quick drags!

Good news for you is that its possible to still enjoy weed after quitting nicotine. I finally successfully quit the nicotine completely when I turned 40, although I'd already quit smoking ciggies at 30 & so had spent a decade just smoking a few spliffs per day.

Nowadays I just smoke a bowl of green in the evening..(and an occasional lunchtime). 2 lung-fulls, no fuss, happy days.

I still miss the social spliff, but if I know I'm going the pub with fellow weed smokers, I take a couple of nicotine-free spliffs rolled with "greengo" instead of baccy.....its never gonna be as nice as a spliff with a lightly toasted camel or marlboro light, but it does the job & means you can still join in the smokers banter in the beer garden.

So, something to look forward to....but you need to go full on cold turkey for 4 weeks minimum I reckon.

Is that like the shit they have in the cafes in Amsterdam since the smoking ban? Not a fan.

I did treat myself to a Pax 3 vape a while ago though and might dabble in that if I want a smoke again. Right now though planning on nothing for a bit.

The last time I was there was in 2014 but they’d just put in the ventilation systems so it was like nothing had changed.

It’s all about getting through the cravings isn’t it?

Maybe ten minutes of willpower at a time and then you’re fine.

Do really need a hobby now I’m not smoking weed though. So bored.

It makes you think and feel like you’re doing something but in reality you’re doing nothing but sitting around.

You maybe won't believe this but giving up smoking is actually quite easy. I tried for many years unsuccessfully giving up first thing in the morning and was smoking by 10:30 am tearing my heart out. Lost count how many times that happened.
So what changed things? I got to the stage as I got older that it really began to frighten me the thought of being one of those old people with masks taking oxygen to stay alive.
When you really want to give up it's really not that hard. I used the patches full strength to cope with the cravings. My family and friends laughed at me but I haven't had a smoke for 15 years now.
Do I still get the urge for a smoke? Quite often when I have a drink but would never do it. Hate smoking with a passion. Best of luck. Hope you succeed.

Three days now and I’m genuinely not having any issues. I think not having other smokers around is making it easier than it’s been before.

As many have said, cold turkey is the way to go
I smoked like a bloody chimney for years - roll-ups, tailor-mades, King Edwards, pipe, you name it. Anything to get nicotine inside me. Tried umpteen times to kick it, but eventually got a private prescription from the doc for some nicotine patches. Carried it around in my wallet for weeks until I eventually thought 'fuck it' and threw my baccy on the back of the fire on April 28th 1983.
Haven't touched one since, and carried that prescription around for years as a sort of reminder.
Am now about three stones heavier though

Its a corny old saying but it’s been my experience. Once you have decided you want to it’s easy. If you are doing it for others or just because you think you should you will have no chance. For me it was the fear of health issues. They don’t bother you in your 20s s and 30’s as you feel you will never get old but once you get to your mid 40s it changes. You see people of 70 who you remember being fit active people of your current age struggling with smoking related issues and you get scared

Just had a mate over to clipper all my hair off, came very close to asking for a drag of his fag when he sparked up but didn’t give in. Feeling very proud of myself.

I quit 10 years ago, I was a 20-25 a day B&H smoker (more if I was out having a pint) I done cold turkey and it was seriously hard work, I found that even though i had got over the nicotine addiction I couldn't shake off the habitual side of things. After a few months I started to have the odd cigar when I was out and that turned into 5-10 a night, I was basically bullshitting myself. I started vaping and it worked (and they were shit 10 years ago). I would advise anyone who wants to give up to convert to vaping, even just to get you through the worst. As some have said, you need to buy a decent mod and decent juice (there is loads of shit about) the best thing to do as an ex smoker is to go straight onto nic salts, although more expensive, they are designed to deliver a high nic hit, (they only come in 10mg or 20mg, start on 20mg) very quickly, they feel just like smoking a fag (throat pull) and even give you that "nic buzz".

You don't need huge sub ohm mod's and massive high wattage tanks that produce giant clouds (unless you like that sort of thing) as these work differently to smoking as they are "Vape To Lung" not "Mouth To Lung". A low wattage pod system with nic salts is by far the best thing for ex smokers and I know they deffo work. I've supplied them to people who have smoked heavy for years and tried everything to quit, including shit vapes and I know they work and save you a small fortune.

I can give anyone advice on the right system, mod and juice to use if they are interested.

Yeah my GF started vaping to try and give up and is probably more addicted to nicotine now than she was before.

Yeah I went mental on it when I vaped. I could “smoke” indoors and there’s no logical end to a “cigarette” so you just go and go.

I doubt it, but even if that was true, she has a 95% less chance of contracting diseases related to smoking cigarettes, a wise choice in my book.

She cut down to 2 a day and then got one and smokes a lot more than a couple a day now. I agree it’s going to be better though, but she would have been better off just giving up.

Sounds like you're doing really well mate. Keep it up.

I always was a social smoker but played with fire for about the last ten years. I smoked properly when I lived in America but found it easy to give up when I came back and stopped partying.

More recently with all the shit going on I've just stopped caring and probably smoke between 5 and 10 a day depending on if I have a few drinks. Reckon I could quit easily but at the moment I'm not really that bothered. I think the biggest worry I have is ballooning in weight. I don't think I've ever fully allowed myself to believe I was addicted. I don't really feel that way, I just enjoy the odd cig.

Also didn't smoke weed for years but recently during lockdown have found myself quite enjoying it. Probably should hit that on the head a bit too, but I've found it chills me out recently with all the shit going on.
