Totally agree and when you look at the BBC article it ignores pre-PL contenders. Hyper commercialised guff but it's been that way for ages

The BBC did a piece on whether anyone will match the 260 prem goals Alan Shearer scored the other day. The main body of the text even mentioned he scored 23 times for Soton in the top league but they don't count presumably because that division didn't have the right name.

I think it's harder now though because the standard of defenders and goal-keepers has gone up considerably since the days when the top flight was 95% British players.
