Their own fault. Why not go for the big win when they were well on top?

They had Ghana on the ropes and one more goal would have done it.

They took their strikers off and decided to hang on to what they had got.

Tough

Been a surprise in most groups. Australia, Japan, Morocco, S. Korea. Wales getting one point.

I think it’s a shining example of how Asian football has progressed, and South American teams (and some big European teams) have regressed.
Japan and South Korea in the last 16, fighting for everything and deservedly going through at the expense of legendary teams like Germany and Uruguay. Brilliant.

Yeah, Suarez is just the face of the rest of them. They're all horrible cunts in that Uruguay team.

I'm very happy they're out.

No way was that a penalty. Cavani stepped across the defender

Watching it live, I was sure he'd tried to buy one. However, with VAR these days you never know.

Agree. Looked a clear dive in real time, but if they had slowed it right down I am sure they could have found that the Ghanaian defender, handled it, then shirt pulled, then spat and finally then kept the ball in even though it was over the line.

Something like if you qualify for the next one you start on 3 points negative.

Looking again at that pen shout, I think Cavani fouls the defender. He puts his leg across hoping to be caught, but actually trips the Ghanaian defender.

Definitely not a pen.

Although I am not a massive fan of international football I have to admit that the last group games have been very exciting, so obviously fifa will duck it up in future with their sixteen groups of three and two going through.

Is that the plan? That’s fucking awful. And means the shitty teams get one less game. Everyone needs to leave FIFA en masse and start a new governing body, with blackjack and hookers.

Not a massive follower of football bar the City but I've really enjoyed what I've seen in this World Cup. Great to see the underdogs rewarded when they shine, I know there's been a lot of controversy about the stuff off the pitch, but at least on it there's been some real progress for some of the countries you would expect to be on the plane home by now. Good entertainment.

Any time I switch ITV on to watch a football game it is just adverts. Really annoying.

Having said that, you can think this World Cup arrangement is a nuisance and still enjoy the actual football of it. One doesn’t cancel out the other.

Seems nearly all the pundits are saying that should have been a penalty for Uruguay at the end.

I really think they need to change the rules if true. I can't see how it should be allowed for a striker to stick his leg out and across the defender, so the defender can do nothing but make contact.

I know it happens all the time and is often given, but it just doesn't seem right to me at all. It's trying to buy a penalty, which seems all but cheating.

Would like it so if VAR look at incidents like that and if they see the striker has deliberately put his leg out across the defender to try and buy a pen, the player is booked.

Cavani is in stride and then inexplicably sticks his leg across the defender. The only reason to do that is so the defender then catches you. It might seem clever, but if you slow it right down, it's in reality, Cavani fouling the defender. Because if that was reversed and that was the defender putting his leg across, it WOULD be a penalty.

Anyway, glad they got knocked out, but I do think they should look at that type of incident and change the rules. Used to be that players dived to win penalties, but with VAR now it's much easier to check to see if a player dived. This is now the new dive.

Its a pen for me. Nunez has got his body between he defender and the ball. The defender takes the player before he get the ball.

Glad they got knocked out though lol.
