Looks like if he had the longevity would likely be more?

I like Messi but he's not close to Maradona for me. Diego dragged a solid but not exceptional Argentina to win the world cup. Dealing with defenders kicking lumps out of him, playing on shit pitches... All the time on the marching powder.

Messi can have a claim when he wins the world cup

Maybe it's because I was young, but I've never seen such consistent influence on a bang average team than that Maradona had on Argentina in Mexico 86.

Argentina have got great players individually, but think they've looked so average in this tournament.
Just don't really seem to click very well and rely on individual brilliance

Baggio carried Italy at a World Cup once, then missed a penalty that sent them out.

But Maradona undoubtedly carried teams at domestic and international level.

He did. It seems wrong to say it given he knocked us out and he was pretty ropey as a human being at times.

But absolutely, my idol as a footballer, without peers.

Even ahead of David Phillips!

Baggio I'd argue is also one of the greatest 10s ever

He was a strange one towards the end of his career iirc. Without looking it up, didn't he go a bit weird after that penalty miss and his career suddenly fell off a cliff? Was a great player in his heyday.

Edit: irrelevant, and again without looking it up, wasn't he a buddhist or some such?

That pitch is absolutely fucked. I thought they’d start recovering now but they’re getting worse.

Not only can you see how patchy it is the ball is bobbling all over the place.

Mooy is the only Australian with any real vision. Leckie looks lively but really they are very mediocre
