My thought it's not how much you spend it's how you spend it and who is spending it .Some money paid out in this window on very average players is mad.

We can’t be too far off Middlesbrough, depending on the criteria (money spent or market value of players)

Transfermarkt has us 103rd in the world for “purchase value”, 1 place behind Middlesbrough. God bless the talent that was Big Vik, the gift that keeps on giving.

I would be interested to see where we would have placed three years ago, before we had the Vic and Hamer money. We've done well from those two - whether that is sustainable is for debate. I do think there is a perceived pressure to capitalise on our sudden income whilst we have it though, which exacerbates the frustrations of our poor start.

What are we up against?

Based on what I've seen so far, that would be ourselves!

Genuinely think the championship is the hardest league in England just due to the amount of clubs going for it every year.

We’ve got a lot of work to do but we’ve got to be ambitious and square up to it imo.

Could have said the same about Vic, Hamer & Wright. Let them settle in before whining.
In Robins we trust.

Anyone who thought we should be going for the autos is deluded.
4th to 6th place is our realistic target. Though at the moment I'm not too hopeful about that.

Go back a couple of seasons or so and we were hanging onto a place in the Championship by our fingernails - we ground out a '6 pointer' away at Rotherham, which seemed to be the turning point (Ostigard scored?). We have travelled a long way back up the pyramid in a relatively short time - some forget that.

Last season when people were saying Ipswich will be promoted, I thought no way. This season Sunderland were tipped to finish top. Can't be right surely?
When people were saying it will be easier this season, I said it would be harder because most teams appear to have upgraded their managers. That said, I thought we would make the top 6.
We need to get into a groove quickly or we could end up with the no hopers.

Autos is doable. Ipswich showed that last year. I’m not saying sack Robins if we’re third, but people massively overestimate the quality difference. A good manager on a run can achieve anything in this division IMO.

Im pretty sure it was said on here we only needed a couple more to guarantee playoffs. We wanted midfield and defender but got neither, whose remit was it to get them? Dean Ashton or King?

This place is getting worse for doom & gloom, people are actually digging around looking for reasons to be negative.

autos are doable, playoffs are doable- of course they are.

This is bullshit. “4th to 6th” based on what? What formulae have you used? Have you studied everyone else to arrive at this confident conclusion?

People think we have a god-given right to improve year-upon-year.

Its simply not possible for the vast majority of sides.

Same in the Premier Leauge..... how many sides think being outside the top 4-6 is unacceptable, and will ultimately sack their manager at some point...... probably about 8, and something tells me they can't all manage it.

Its great that we've been on an upward spiral for some time, and long may it continue..... but we're now pushing the limit of where "a club of our stature" should probably be, i.e looking to compete at top end of championship.

It’s the competing at the top end of the Championship that people are expecting.

We are a similar sized club to Middlesbrough, slightly smaller than the likes of Leeds and Sunderland. We have massively underachieved in recent decades.

But we’re a club that ha a just had £45m spent on it, so we should be batting above because we won’t have that every season (and if we did we’d be a bigger club with higher expectations).

The stated aim of playoffs roughly half the time is the right one for a club of our stature IMO.

And we are competing at the top end of the championship, as we have been playoff contenders the past two seasons.

A slightly downbeat start to the season doesn't change that...... the reaction to our poor start this year is even more ludicrous when you look back at the past couple of years where we have done similar (if not worse)

I'm downbeat given our start to the season.
What's gone on previously has no bearing on it.
I said in previous seasons we turn it around, I was correct.
I'm not so sure we will this year.
I base it on what I've watched each season, not what went on the previous year.
I'll be delighted to be wrong this season, but I do agree we don't have a god given right to keep improving, especially as every year we do the bar gets set higher.

oh so you’re doing the ‘putting words in peoples mouths’ game too, I get it. A common pastime on here.

I’m saying that coming up with a specific stated aim of 4th to 6th based on.. I’ve no idea what.. is stupid talk.

the autos are doable, playoffs are doable- promotion is the aim, but this talk of “we won’t bother aiming any higher than fourth, forget that” is nonsense.

I'm not putting words in anyone's mouth, I think I misunderstood your point.
You think the autos are doable, great, I think it's delusional.
I hope you're right.

I’ll stick my neck out, and be another realist; I don’t believe we’ll be gaining promotion this season.

I will also tentatively suggest that, unless there’s a collectively cohesive effort, that we won’t even make the play offs - with or without Sheaf.

I would also proffer caution to those expecting a sudden and unexpected 22/23-esque march into the playoffs.

This team is too young, too disjointed and there is no obvious leadership on the pitch.

I’m more than happy to be proven wrong, come May. PUSB ⚽️

Exactly, we've played 6 games (inc cup games)
Won 3, drawn 1 and lost 2

And people are questioning MR already!

Really?

Granted, it's not the start in the league we were wishing for. but there's loads of the season to go. The games we lost were by the narrowest of margins and we still created enough chances to of got a result.

A couple of wins is all it needs to kick start our season!

Hull have signed Alzate on a 2 year contract, would have been a good fit here imo
