So, 73 points were needed last season to get to the play offs (which then leaves a 1 in 4 chance of promotion)

We current have 37 points after 26 games, meaning we need another 36 points from next 20 games.

So, a likely finish needed is

P 20
W 10
D 6
L 4

Confident ??

Always have been
If we don't then Tim and Wag are to blame.

Just hope SISU fund us next year

Still a massive task. It's possible but not confident.

If Clarke (or Elliott) performs anything like McG, then yes, it is very achievable. Sheff U are going down slightly, I tip Tranmere and Brentford to drop a bit. We just need to pull our finger out.

Our aim should be to go the rest of the season unbeaten IMO. Lets hope we 'do a Reading!'

25 matches is our longest unbeaten record, in 1967 IIRC.

Lets hope your right pal

We won't remain unbeaten we concede too many goals and leave ourselves open for when we have off days infront of goal ala Shrewsbury

73 points is high, and not needed this year
67 points will do. gives us a great chance in my book

I don't think we will, I think 1, maybe 2 losses from now. Jus need to keep the draw count down.

It's vitally important we snatch wins from the jaws of defeat/draws and make sure we hold leads, which we have been doing.

Agreed pal. I have mentioned this, but hopefully we tighten up in defence, I did dedicate a post to this, we need to not concede goals, hopefully we start today!

Really? 6 points off the magic number of 73? Not too unrealistic...

I have said that it'll be more open this year, no out-and-out winner of the league for me, I genuinely don't think I know who will win it. I'd like to think CCFC, but maybe Bournemouth? Ah, we'll wait and see won't we!

The top 7 will all get over 70 points imo, so that's 8 teams getting over 70 points if you think we can. Bournemouth an Mk have 43 points in 6th an 7th so they need only 27 points from 20 games to hit 70 points

The title race is a lot more open but the play off chase doesn't seem that open to me

I think even 73 points may not be enough for play offs

right, last year it was 93 points to get automatic promotion

that leaves our last 20 game as 56 points needed, and thats not even to win the league

so,

P 20
W 18
D 2
L 0

For Tranmere to get that they need:

W 13
D 1
L 6

They're quite far away!

Winner will get less than 90pts IMO.

Fair enough, I think the aim for us is to make progressive targets, ATM, target should be Top 6 (hopefully 5) by Sheff U game, then top 4 (hopefully Top 3) by the end of February, and so on. It's going to be difficult but we've just got to do our best every game we play. I don't think they'll be a run away winner, as they all seem to cock up time to time.

Believe.

While we had DMC we were nailed on for 2 points a game ,we will have to see if we can now sustain that ,but if we do that gets us near to the 80's ,not quite good enough for auto's ,those first 8 games are going to bite us on the bum @ seasons end,we should make Play offs.

Ive had a quick look with no luck but can anyone more intelligent than me find a league 1 table from a previous year as it stands in january so we can see how many points teams had at this stage? That will give us a fair indication on whether were likley to need as many points as that year to make the playoffs! In general, with the exception of the prem where theres just way too much money for the bigboys... i feel leagues are getting more competitive over the last few years which should mean theres a good chance less points would b required!! Would be nice to see if im right....

If we win our next 2 games we WILL be in the top 6. All the teams above us are dropping points. No team this season are even averaging 2 points a game. 46x2=92 So I see whoever reaches about 88 points will be champions. This could be lower though. There are 11 teams above us before we play today. 5 of them have played the same amount of games as us. The other 6 have played a game more. If we win our next two games 1 will have played the same amount of games, 5 of them will have played 1 less and the other 5 will have played 2 less. But with teams dropping points it will be close. Then we will be at home to Oldham who are 19th.

Sheff Utd lost at home yesterday 2-0 to Yeovil. Out of the 11 teams above us 4 won, 4 drew and 3 lost. 3 of the wins were for the top 3 sides. The other win was for Yeovil who are now in 8th. So a win today will have made a massive difference to our playoff chances.

We are on a good run. If we keep it up we will be in the top 6. Everything else depends on results elsewhere. The teams at the top have not been beating us. If we can keep it up we will be looking good. All the teams at the top have to play each other still.

It's possible but probably not likely this season. We've just dropped too many points under Thorn and Shaw. All those surrendered leads. Auto will be out of our reach.

The goal has to be to hit the playoffs. I think that's more likely. Then it's a 1 in 4 chance more or less depending on current form. I'd favour the form team rather than the highest finishing.

The top 6 at the same stage all finished in the top 6 at the end of the season.

I would fancy our chances if we made it to the playoffs. We have been in three knockout tournaments this season. Gone out to Arsenal and Spurs away. Beat everyone else

Our problem is out of 15 pointswe potentially could have gained at the start of the season we took 0 and from a potential 24 points we took 3!!! If we don't do it that will be the reason why!! If we carry on like we are we ha e a decent chance! Taking points off the teams around us are important!!! Lets see where it takes us!

I think we are more than capable of making the playoffs but automatic is probably out of reach but stranger things have happened!! we are one of the most consistent and in form teams at present but our poor start is still an anchor around us to push higher. I though we would be in a position where we would have games in hand due to cup commitments but we don't!!

Nice thought, but a bit far out of reach I would say. Unless we can win the majority and only lose a couple of more times. The play-offs might be possible, I suppose, but our home form in the LEague needs to pick up. Here's hoping though.

I think it is games like today torch when we have come off two difficult and draining cup games, if you can get 3 points you must be a serious contender.

I think automatic has gone but top 6 is still possible but we have to maintain our form for the rest of the season. We can't afford a dodgy patch. Our rise to the top half has been great but closing the gap on the top 6 is proving as difficult as many predicted.

Yep agree, Stu. It would be great to keep up the away form today after a couple of difficult games.

I don't think we will make the playoffs.

I reckon around 9th.

Next year will be our season I feel and think we will be pushing for the top 2!

Hope I'm proved wrong!

Of course we can do it - Sheff Utd are stumbling MK Dons are in and out Tranmere concede loads, If we can improve our home form then we can do it.

Anyway since when was realism anything to do with being a Cov fan ?
