People keep talking about our progress considering last years performance and I agree this year is light years better, but it seems to me in this division you can only take each year in isolation.

Each year you lose your loan players, your best youngsters and players out of contract, so each year you start again.

If we dont make it this year then next season is an unknown, you cannot expect us necassarily to progess say we finish 7th up into the playoffs it could just as easily be the other way round.

So I really hope we make it this year.

I think the first 3 months promised a great deal of promise. Unfortunately, the past 3 months has seen nothing but relegation form.

On paper, we have progressed from last season. The reality is that as a club, we've pretty much stagnated.

If we don't make promotion this year, I will be worried about having to rebuild again next season, also worried that TM might jump ship?

That, I'm afraid, is a distinct possibility

The fact we are STILL in the top 6 after this poor run is a bloody miracle!

I'm not worried about TM jumping ship because if we fail to get promoted then it's his failure just as much as the players. After all, they're his playing, playing his way. If he walks away then that will say quite a bit about him.

Although frustrated by a run of one win in six league games, and no wins at home in four this year, which has seen the Saddlers drop six points behind top spot.

this is Walsall so far this calender year, so there aint much between us at the top.

It will all be ok next year as we will have the Maddison money to spend as well:claping hands:

It will be a cold day in hell my friend, a cold day in hell!

If we have a really good end to the season crowds will increase and we can make some money there.

Carry on like we are and crowds will drop to about 9,000 and we will lose money.

That gives me some hope Robbie that others may also screw up.

It's even more galling though, that we've been so poor we haven't taken advantage.

Thing is, while Burton and Gillingham and Walsall have been very obliging in helping us out, the likes of Bradford, Barnsley and Southend have been going like stream trains and are now right on our heels.

Agree with the original poster. If we don't get promoted this season, we start again from scratch. The core of the current team will be gone and possibly TM too. It's unlikely we will find another crop of such highly-regarded loanees as this season. If TM isn't here, there is little chance we will attract such top players as it is he and Mark Venus who have the contacts.

Things have really tightened up in the top half, Wigan are the only real side that look like they will claim top spot.
Not sure we can say we've made progress in the long term of the playing squad, unless many extend there contracts. In terms of what we've seen and been used to football wise we've made strides until our slump. Weve certainly had better value for money this season and I think from heights we've reached it would be disappointing not to make at least the playoffs now. The much talked 20+ goal a season striker is hard to find, we got lucky this year. Look at leyton orient and also Swindon. Promotion next season is not guaranteed, quite the opposite.

Didn't we want Nicky Ajose? 18 goals in his last 20 games for mid table Swindon

Shame we didn't pick up someone like Hooi as TM planned.. We were going to sign him rather than have him in as a loan I believe.

Glad we got Rose and Lorentzson, but would have been better if we could have got a couple more with the future in mind and we had building blocks for next season in League One.

Hooi sounded useful, and was available on a free if I recall. Must be tricky as a manager in all honesty tho, do you build for next season still knowing that 80% of your squad won't cut it in the championship and need rid of the ones who are contracted to get in players who are capable of maintaining a challenge in the championship but will do a job in league 1....
Rose looks a beast and a talent too. Lameires needs games and he has a bit about him too. Lorentzson I'm still to be convinced on as I've only seen him once in all honestly.

Yep, me too. Going by what TM was saying about him too though. A full back who likes to get forwards. Think he nearly scored in that home match here if I remember rightly. Header saved by the keeper I think.

Yes correct, should of scored it to be fair but we cannot write him off just yet just for that... Tho some fans might!! The way TM talks about him he's undoubted talent. Let's hope he can produce that.
Id like him to have his chance tomorrow instead of Ricketts.
