A lot of melodrama on here again:

profit on every player bar Kitchin athe moment.

I’ve ignored EMC / Dovin on basis it’s too early to judge.

If wright rediscovers last seasons output he would go for in excess of £10m.

I agree we need a bit more experience but I’m told we tried hard to get that in midfield, thought we had it, and on 2 occasions it fell through at the 11th hour.

We also tried for a loan late in the window.

We are not being quite so poor as some would have you believe.

We were in the exact same boat regarding the midfield this time last season.
Admittedly Hamer left late in the day which screwed us over but even so, 2 seasons on the trot is poor.

I’m frustrated too but if you think about it logically rather than as emotionally invested fans you can see how it happens.

There are similarities for when you buy a house. You are really careful with your choice and then when you think it’s all agreed sometimes it falls through for reasons you can’t control.

when that happens most people don’t panic and just buy any old property at the 11th hour, they decide to take their time, move into rented, and buy something later when the right thing becomes available.

That’s what we are doing I think.

The issue for us is that unlike renting it’s not easy to find free players who will sign for 6 months, most want 12m at least and many want 2 years ….

And yet we were interested and he’d still improve our current squad.

I just think that if an owner was intent on getting to the prem they’d be addressing the serious issues in the side rather than faffing around adding extra strikers that we don’t need just because they might make you some extra cash.

I’m not saying that the club having extra cash from a return on an investment is a bad thing, clearly not, but the obvious issue that needed addressing first was the midfield and that wasn’t resolved. And I don’t buy the idea for one second that there wasn’t a midfielder out there suitable for us, literally hundreds and hundreds of midfielders across Europe and UK and instead we spent £2-3 mil on Bassette, just seems a bit odd to me.

I’m not saying we don’t need another midfielder it’s been obvious for over a year now and likewise I don’t know why we chose to buy yet another forward but Kings involvement in this is simple, he sanctions or not what the manager and recruitment team put in front of him. Someone identified Bassette, the manager would have he said he wants him then they would have put that to King who would have agreed a price they were prepared to pay and started the negotiations.
I’ve never suggested there isn’t a midfielder out there even if we didn’t have the cash to pay for one I can’t understand why we didn’t offer Brown more, look seriously at Walsh or Cantwell and now James. Likewise I was amazed we sold Palmer but to be fair at least half of this forum thought he was shit and would drive him to his next destination. However I expect with Palmer they decided they didn’t want to have an O’Hare situation where he walks for nothing.

Think we will make a profit on Van Erwijk and possibly Dovin, Rudoni and Bassette. Think we will break even on some others. Cannot imagine anyone paying close to £9m for Wright.

Wright got 19 goals last year? High profile game son TV too. A similar season this year and he would go for profit I think

Rudoni needs to look at how Callum played the number 10 role for me. He looks a decent player but rather than quick fire give and go he wants to hold on to the ball for too long and then gets surrounded and loses possession.

That reason isn’t solved by Matty James.

No, but a wise head and a bit of experience in midfield would certainly help things, plus he'd be decent cover for Sheaf. Who's made of glass these days.

And James is the kind of player who can make adjustments to our tactics on the pitch, such as yesterday when a blind man could see the goal was coming down our right flank, but no-one seemed able to change things.

I'm not suggesting he'd be the messiah, but he'd add some much needed leadership.

Carry on this descent into trouble and our options in January will be few.

No. But another midfield body, and an experienced one at that, wouldn't have done any harm

At the end of last season I was confident we could turn a profit on Wright, Simms, Sakamoto, Milan. In fact the only player I the thought we’d struggle to break even on is Kitching.

If this season’s dross continues it’s impossible to know really. But I still think those four players I named were good signings.

This is why we need a winning team first and foremost. MVE in a team down the bottom end of the table leaking goals left right and centre would be worth far less than a MVE with impressive clean sheet record and assist stats performing for a top 8 club. It's the same with all the other players too.

Dougs approach to the loan market is an oddity and I think his one dimensional thinking around transfers and how and why player values rise, might cost him a lot of money.

I hope he and MR sort it out but with every loss the hill is looking more and more like a mountain that I still currently have faith we can climb.

Players we’ve signed since the play off final we’d make a profit on
Dovin, MVE, Thomas, Dasilva, Latibeaudiere, Sakamoto, Wright, Simms, Rudoni, Bassette, Thomas-Asante.

We'd be lucky to get some nice shrubs for the training ground in exchange for Latibeaudiere.

Some outrageously bad takes in this thread. I appreciate everyone was emotional after Leeds but only a month ago people were tearing their hair out at the thought we'd lose Sheaf, Wright and Simms on deadline day, now we'd struggle to get more than a MarsBar for them.

I'm not obtuse, I know they've all started the season badly but not bad enough to wipe 7/8 figures off their value in a month!
