Coventry City manager Steven Pressley has been charged by The FA for misconduct in relation to pre-match media comments.

It is alleged that Pressley failed to act in the best interests of the game and/or acted in a manner which was improper when making the comments prior to Coventry's game against Preston North End on 27 September 2014.

Pressley has until 6 October 2014 to respond to the charge.

So is this charge over the Garner comments, which were hardly offensive and him giving an opinion on an opposition player, or the comments / complaint against the ref?

If it's the Garner one, didn't Grayson also make reference to this post match? Will he be disciplined also?

So he is allowed to complement players but not criticise? May as well not do a press conference, just play a recording of his voice each week.

He also said he hopes the ref reads his comments on Garner which could be interpreted as an attempt to influence the refs decision making

True. Seems a bit petty, but then again the comment probably was too

If managers are not allowed to say anything even remotely controversial, why do teams bother to have these media events the day before every game. Absolutely pointless yet Sky Sports lap them up from the top clubs. Just go back to naming the squad and updating the local rag on who is injured.

To be fair, his comments on garner where a little harsh... The cheating bastard dived for the foul for the free kick, fell over and dived at every other opportunity and scored the pen and then celebrated by diving!!!

I will do it for you SP.

Joe garner is a cheating fucking wanker and I want to give him a right hook.

Sorry but Sp has made himself look very foolish here. You dont mention how a player dives and the says he hopes the referee looks out for it.

And then Garner scores and does the diving celebration.

Criticizes Reda Johnson for his red card and then does something as dumb himself. And it's never a good idea to insult an opposing striker directly before a game.

Giving a referee 'instructions' before a game is more than 'remotely controversial'.

hopefully he wont do it again all it really did was make him sound scared to be playing against him, fired up garner and left our players moaning about every little decision garner got which was a distraction they didn't need when they were playing piss poor anyway

I think they have Pressley bang to rights here - very surprised Pressley said it and linked it to ref for future game!
Sounded a bir desperate and first sign that maybe he is losing the plot a little.
If it was his attempt to replicate fergie mind games he has a lot to learn!!!

It would be great if SP turns up to the hearing with loads of DVDs of Garner diving!

Silly charge , but maybe pressley should worry about his own tactics and system he currently has in place , loose to crawley and crewe , then bristol oldham and peterborough in quick succession , could spell the end for him if he doesnt pull his finger out his arse and change things

Basically football managers all ex-players are thick as two short planks and lucky to have the football ability to be players then managers, but intelligence at the back of the queue I'm afraid.

The only difference being that Pressley may have been trying to influence the Ref before the Preston game ,whereas Monk was offering a Critique post match??
