Impossible to judge him as a manager just yet I feel.
Any successes we have had this season have revolved around having either David McGoldrick or Leon Clarke leading the line. They are out and out goalscorers.
When any manager has to rely on the likes of Callum Wilson or Danny Philliskirk or Callum Ball to fill those sort of enormous boots you are always going to have problems.
Think we can only judge Pressley when he has the front line he wants at his disposal. It's no wonder we didn't score yesterday when you have Danny Philliskirk leading the strikeforce. How many goals has he scored in his career again?
I'm not convinced by Pressley but let us at least give him a chance to build his own team and have the players at his disposal to select from first before we start chastising the bloke.

One question for the Pressely doubters.....how have you been able to make a informed decision on a manager that has had so much shite thrown at him from day one of his job? Most would walk away (Mark Robins) give the guy a chance, you come here and on CWR giving it this and that about tactics and players/positions ect...obviously these people know more than an ex player? or more than a qualified coach? thought not...just give him a fair crack of the whip.. unfortunately it ain't football manger hes playing its real life...we should be supporting him, surely?
I can see exactly what he's trying to do in terms of Football Manager tactics
One point where reality differs is that if you play on a muddy pitch, going a couple of "notches" more direct with your passing is more effective in FM. Yesterday, IRL, it was not!
What a managers ask players to do on the pitch and what players a capable of doing can sometimes be poles apart...he has be unable to anything with the squad as we have had an embargo...he may well see the same as you buy can not fix it has he is stuck with an inherited squad. look at the injuries! to make an judgement now is unfair, IMO...if we are struggling next season then the board need to make a decision...PUSB
If we are struggling then Pressley will get the boot I reckonI expect us to struggle next season, simply because the changes and restructure he wants to do will take time to work.

Which has already started and we have preseason to do that, there aren't any excuses come start of the season.
I feel the criticisms of him are completely unjust, he inherited a squad that is very strong in places, but in other areas, very weak, one of those positions being striker, now, we all knew we'd struggle if Clarke got injured, whoever was manager, because he was the only reliable source of goals, Sod's law, he gets injured, and we don't have adequate cover for him, Wilson and Philliskirk look like they could be decent/average (not yet decided) but unfortunately, neither look like they have goalscoring instincts (albeit, I will concede, it's difficult to judge seeing as they haven't had much game time). Cody, who is a natural goalscorer, at L2, he may be a class L1 striker for a different team as he doesn't suit our style. Ball, had barely started all season, no league goals, so based on that, it was worrying and pretty obvious we were going to struggle. I expect next season SP will amend this weakness by signing a ST either to start, or as a sub.
Under him, we've played some good football, created decent chances, but lacked the cutting edge in front of goal Clarke has, that's why you pay big money for strikers, because a good striker can take you up that extra level (e.g. Hooper @ Scunny).
Defensively, we've struggled all season, under SP, we're missing Adams, and for most of his reign, Wood, our best CB (I'd still get rid, which says a lot about the rest), I personally wouldn't keep any of our CBs at the min, they're either not worth their wage, or shit. I hope Willis comes in and does really well, and hopefully he's accompanied with some other defenders.
This doesn't mean he'll be a good manager for us, I have faith in him, but he cannot be judge yet IMO.
Yep, we're not the most patient of fans.
To be fair Stu we support the most non-achieving club in the FL at present, stretching back for over 40 years. The more we settle for crap in progressively worse standards of football the more sealed the club's long term fate becomes; it's nowhere near good enough and we shouldn't be accepting it.
I kind of agree, however there is no quick fix, even if the takeover happens, we shouldn't just throw money at the problem. We've had too much short termism, we need a long term solution that enables is to stand on our own two feet with mininal losses. We need to copy what swansea did.

Agree with this. Swansea stuck to a principle an it's worked perfectly for them. Having different managers with different philosophies has meant we've got a squad of players who all play different ways. Time for consistency on and off the pitch.
Do you think that's how Cardiff, Watford, Leicester and the like all operate? Football in this country punishes long termism and rewards reckless short term spending to get into the big time. We need access to those stadium revenues and the lying yes-man Fisher and his employers to leave-things on the pitch will not improve, no matter how sensible the strategy, if the same rotten core is still there.
Coleman was given 2.5 years and delivered some of the worst football seen.
Wait until their owners run out of money or get bored. Of we go down the short term root we will face this situation again in 8-10 years time. I agree we need access to the revenue streams.
I don't disagree at all but it's these clubs making it so hard to compete whilst maintaining a sustainable business. QPR in the Championship next season will be very interesting indeed; bought their way up a few years ago and have resoundingly failed to progress.
QPR are the next Pompey. Spent more, achieved less and will fall harder, I'm sure.

Yes we underachieved, but as another poster said there didn't appear to be a long term strategy. Boothroyd was appointed after and it was a complete change in philosophy again. There was no consistency in their early appointments.
Credit where its due, Waggott and Fisher did well with Robins. Whether Pressley will be remains to be seen and those writing him off already are a bit silly IMO. I would love to know who those doing so would like to see realistically replace him.
The strategy was to buy young players who would develop and be sold at a profit-Fox, Dann, Gunnar and Westwood amongst others fit the bill so there was a definite strategy. The problem lay in hiring an awful manager.

Yes but then that strategy changed. Gunnar left for a nominal fee and we lost Westwood for nothing. We lost the spine of the team that summer and signed McDonald.
