With the start of the PL season today it had me thinking...

Being late 20's.. will i ever see CCFC in the premierleague again in my lifetime?

What year will it be when we next break our transfer record for a player does everyone think? Surely Robbie Keane won't hold the award forever?

I'm 33 so grew up with us in the PL but I'm not convinced we will get back there before I'm 50. I think Bellamy cost half a million more than Keane.

I think an interesting question is do we want to go back to the premier league? I suppose we do but I speak to a fair few that say it’s not worth it.

Just getting there would pay for a new stadium. Don't spend stupid money trying to stay for another season or two. Then have the squad and money to be able to compete in the Championship.

I'd absolutely love to be back in the Premier league. I watched some of the best players in the world growing up, sometimes we'd even put them to shame. It does seem a long way off. If we can get back in the championship though we're only a good season away. There are so many big clubs in the championship though now it'd be great to be playing against them again too.

Yeah me too. I was reading today how Warnock has said Cardiff aren’t going to spend silly money this season, just in case they go down.
I remember Charlton under curbishley took a few years to establish themselves. Of current sides, for me, Burnley should be the blueprint to aspire to. Although I guess there’s a lot of luck involved...

With our current owner no chance of Premiership,ever. I think the thought of the championship never mind the Prem. frightens her to death. Mark Robins has had a good go this summer brought some decent players in young too, but our best will be sold leaving Robins with the loose change and the same issues next season. Championship players transferred within the championship are selling for 4/5/6 million, Reading have just shelled out £1.5million for our star man, a fourth division player last season, to be on the bench,no way will sisu okay spending that sort of dosh even if we fill the Ricoh every week.

We are nowhere near because we don't have the financial infra structure. Personally I wouldn't want us there, too risky financially and a season of being whipping boys. Unless things change dramatically we would struggle with the financial requirements of being competitive in the Championship.

after brexit will force the issue because the rules on foreign players will change to that of outside of europe. Currently being reported that 152 current premier league players in their squads would not get International clearance to play in the UK going forward.:joyful:

Then the big boys with their Premiership money will swoop for the next best probably out of the championship who in turn will nick the next best out of division one and so on. Also don’t you think this scenario has been scrutinised by all the clubs likely to be affected and that’s IF brexit happens

I'm 51 and I'll be very surprised if I ever see us in the PL again.
Something I personally couldn't give 2 fucks about but would like us to get back for the sake of the younger supporters.

It’s overrated, it’s good for a few years but the novelty soon wears off when you are watching a bunch of mercenaries stroll around on their way to another defeat.

Something needs to be done to level out the playing field because at the moment you have a situation where 14 clubs are essentially there to just be cannon fodder.

What’s the point when the best you can ever hope for as a fan is to maybe see your team finish in mid table obscurity in the top flight?

Would be good to not be resigned to losing talented players to clubs who are shit at developing their own talent because they've bought their way up the leagues. Would also be good not to go to places like Brighton and Bournemouth in damage limitation mode against their B team.

Agree with most of this, the only change i would make is that we may be happy to hold our own in league one. If it becomes apparent that is the case then i can't see the point, surely there has to be the ambition to compete at the highest level as a club and as fans.

We'd still lose our best players to richer clubs. The only difference is that we'd be watching people earning £50k a week instead of £2k a week and they'd probably not try quite so hard as they'd know that theres always someone willing to pay them big bucks.

There’s fewer richer clubs though.

If we were in the Prem the likes of Wilson and Maddison would probably still be developing with us.

Would they develop though? The problem with the National team is that young English players are not getting enough first team games. We’d be no different to any other by getting foreign imports in to play.

We are now 1 step away from having a chance of making it.

Yes some Championship sides spend millions trying to make it to the Prem. But on our side we have a very good academy. We will make it back. The question is how many years will it take.

The club's stock has sunk to such an extent that some would be content with this.
