His whole Cov career, it’s 2.5 so why chuck the baby out with the bath water? If you’d sell Simms for anything less than £15m, you’d have to be an idiot.

2.72. He’s OK he’s not irreplaceable and we wouldn’t get close to £15m for him. But his lack of impact on the team when he’s not scoring mean he has to be outstanding when he’s not scoring. Which is often cos he’s a streaky player.

Just had a thought, now we have Grimes could we move to a 4-4-2.

Simms works better with a partner with him up front. Feel Sheaf and Grimes could absolutely hold the midfield and string it together.

Formation is compact to help us defend with a high line and can be fluid in movement? Also gets EMC and wright on the pitch together.

Bristol City away - parries an easy free kick, they score from the corner in which he makes no attempt to claim the ball in the six yard box or save the shot.

QPR away - howler

Leeds home - howler

Leeds away - beaten easily by gnonto from range in the centre of the goal

Leeds away - fails to stop shot at near post for the second goal

Leeds away - fails to stop grass cutter that hits his hands but still goes in

Jheeze, all of them have really let themselves down haven’t they. I wonder where we could be with a competent GK

Wilson was in goal for Leeds away

Swansea home, not a howler.

Stoke away - the guy is 6 yards out, no time to react

Dovin is objectively one of the best keepers in the league - currently 4th on PSxG +/- per 90

The standards are so low for our keepers that being beaten twice at your near post in our opening 6 games is acceptable.

Bristol City one, he couldn't collect the corner with the amount of bodies in front of him and he had a man basically lying on his feet so he couldn't dive for a screamer he had no chance of saving anyway. On Stoke, getting megged from 6 yards out was the only place Baker could've scored. You can't set yourself as a keeper with your legs closed

And why did he parry the original free kick out for a corner? He had three attempts to deal with it and failed each time. A ‘top championship’ keeper prevents that goal on one of those occasions

You don't actually think Dovin is a bad keeper surely? By Championship standards he's already good and unlike most in the league is probably going to get better.

Nah I don’t mind him. I think he’ll end up being a great keeper. I just think our fans are desperate to absolve him of blame sometimes. Much prefer him to the other 2.

I can't remember the free kick and can't see it on any highlights which is why I didn't comment on it. He didn't have 3 attempts to deal with it as you can't blame him for not collecting the corner or saving the screamer. Swansea at home went through a defender's legs so again that's harsh as he's unsighted. QPR and Leeds I accept (even though you could equally blame Lati and the rest of the defence for letting Bogle get that far)

The free kick was a soft one by Twine than should’ve been caught. Fair enough on the rest of your post I just think there’s an awful lot of excuse making that wouldn’t be afforded to Collins or Wilson if it was them.

Hopefully there are no more errors to discuss in the future!

I will give you 2 errors - Leeds home and QPR away.

But you don't seem to appreciate the great saves he's made - e.g. Blackburn away where they were all over us first half and he kept us in the game. Watford home he made an incredible save from a deflected shot to prevent an equaliser. He was a massive part of our 4 league wins in a row, only beaten by an OG in those games.

Thinking we need to replace him at this point is a genuinely ludicrous opinion

I just don’t think those saves were ‘incredible’. If the deflected shot at home to Watford beats him, I’d have suggested he tries his luck outfield!

Also think people go with the assumption all other keepers save everything they should and its only their own teams keeper that chucks one in occasionally. They are all at it. As long as they don't do it too often (see our other 2 keepers.)

Not sure that was Johannson’s fault, I think one of their centre halves blinked and distracted him!

I’m more in the 4-2-3-1 camp Goblin. Sheaf-Grimes in the 2, Saka/Rudoni/EMC in the 3, Wright as the spearhead. Or alternate it, Wright for EMC, Simms for Wright. I really want Rudoni on the pitch in a 10 type role with Sheaf/Grimes controlling the midfield.

Think the 4-2-3-1 would be great as well. Would be interested to see how Wright does playing as the spearhead again and solves the Rudoni issue (felt only place I could put him was over Saka).

People surely only think that down to the amount of shots he has to deal with. Sign of a good keeper is to be alert when you've had nothing to do. Take Ramsdale as an example, good keeper if he's kept busy (which is why he was highly rated before signing for Arsenal), as soon as he was only required to make 1 - 2 saves a game, he started making mistakes. Best keeper in the league for me is Cooper, not far behind is Trafford as he must find it so hard not to fall asleep with Burnley's style of play

£15m including add-ons is entirely reasonable to expect for Simms.

Not a bad shout, but you’d have to play Rudoni RM over Sakamoto because we need at least one creative midfielder, Sheaf and Grimes are more progressive players who are safe in possession. Torp and Rudoni are more risky on the ball in terms of creativity.

Sakamoto won’t be a starter, he’s a good player but I don’t think he’ll be considered a start for much longer.

Go and rewatch the watford save. He has to completely readjust with his weight going the opposite way. If you don't think that's a great save you don't know much about goalkeeping.

I disagree I think it was routine. Leeds fans hate Meslier and would probably sell him tomorrow, yet we’ve seen him make 2 better saves in one half than we’ve seen Dovin make all season. Sort of proves my point
