- Started with our strongest team and it had BTA up front, JDS at LB
- Brighton also played their strongest possible team 1st half
- No Bassette at all suggests he’s off (hopefully just on loan)
- No Lati or Binks (2nd half CB pairing was Perry and Bidwell)
- No Eccles
- 2 of our 3 chances came from crosses, looks like the tactics haven’t evolved from cross and inshallah

I think Brighton have done a disservice to Collins with their report, it looks as if the ball is half blocked by Bidwell and then tapped in.

It’s a real problem finding the right level of opposition …. Too good and frankly we are getting comfortably beaten, or play Bristol rovers and win at a stroll.

The upside however is that it’s still clear where we need to strengthen to have a greater likelihood of success than last season

It's because we're a good Championship side, no more no less.

There were some decent passages of play from us but thank fook we won’t have to put up with one of the clowns starting the season in goal.

Not really the issue. The issue is about finding teams that you are well matched to compete against rather than being beaten easily or winning easily.

It won’t however help our forwards confidence that they haven’t scored in pre season, after all they were not really firing at the end of last season either.

Interesting BTA ahead of Simms although not entirely surprising. Think I prefer BTA slightly.

We had a pretty good pre season last summer which led into a very poor first half of the season. We're a bit ahead of Brighton in pre-season and so I can see the reasoning behind it.

The forwards aren't good enough, that won't be changed by slightly more optimal pre season opposition.

It's the same every year...

WINS & GOALS APLENTY:

Looks like we're hitting the ground running. We've got the intensity already. Great to have our strikers in form. A great season awaits!

DEFEATS & NO GOALS:

All about fitness. Save your goals for the real games. They games are meaningless. Building up to matchday 1.

BTA has been more active up front in pre season in the games/highlights than anyone else.

Yep interesting on BTA though.

I'd imagine if a striker were to go it would be him as he would have more interest

Same, would be pretty happy if it was him kept and Simms moved though. His energy from the bench can be useful.

agreed hes less likely to have a purple patch than Simms, but more likely to be an asset off the bench.

This is what I think it was, not 100% sure especially 2nd half.

Didn't we have a poor pre-season the season we were promoted from League One?

As long as it’s one of Simms/BTA that go permanently and not Wright I’ll be happy whichever leaves providing we get our money back.

So after 4 pre season friendlies:-

9 goals conceded
2 goals scored (no goals scored by a striker)

At what point do we say this is no longer about gaining fitness but highlights the weaknesses that need addressing within the next 2 weeks pronto?
