We would need a Xhaka type signing. Loads of experience at the highest level

The way Frank has improved the players in 1 year. Who says they can't make the step up? Luton almost stayed up and barely spent anything. I'd take our team over the Luton one that finished their Premier League season, even now.

Do the same analysis for our first choice XI compared to a pretty honking West Ham team and that gives you a good idea of how much work we would need to do, especially at the back.

I think we’d give West Ham a decent game, and we’d probably beat them at home. Obviously they have top class players like Bowen and Paqueta, that we aren’t anywhere close to. But the point of the transfer market is for us to add that stardust in the summer.

Suppose we have a budget of around £50m for players because they'll be wages on top of that. What do we do? We get 10 x £5m players rather than one £50m player roughly speaking. The value is still going to be abroad, in the main, if we can find the right players.

They'll have had plans last summer for PL, they won't all be dead and they'll be updated all the time so they'll have a reasonable idea already I would think.

Thomas I'd swap for Danso & Collins
Henderson is more comparable with Grimes and yes I'd probably swap him
Odobert and Christie are backups for their teams
MVE I wouldnt swap
Rushworth I'd swap for Petrovic, Vicario, Pope, Pickford, Leno, Sels and probably Dubravka if we are just looking at them now and not future value
Wright you would swap for Richarlison or Igor Jesus probably.
That’s shockingly pessimistic especially with regard to Rushworth. I’d agree on Sels and Pickford only and probably add Trafford or Kelleher to the list.

Will they? Who is he displacing out of those in PL? Baring in mind he hasn't played a minute of top flight football literally anywhere.

Around half give or take of PL goalkeepers starting for their clubs currently cost roughly £15m or less. Is Rushworth really worth that?

Dean Austin would do some serious damage with £100m if we went up, wouldn’t be any of players mentioned on here too.

Who would you want?
Henderson brings the leadership element of Xhaka and can help with control but he's only just signed for Brentford.
Ruben Loftus Cheek wouldn't be awful but would cost a lot and not the exact style of Xhaka.
McTominay will be wanted by clubs much bigger than ourselves.
I can't think of many more but I am very England centric and my knowledge of European leagues isn't great. I don't think the three mentioned above are likely signings either if we do go up.

It’s a really tricky question.

The step up is enormous. Each year we see clubs get promoted and then their star championship players look off the pace at the top table.

You would be targeting fringe players at existing premier league clubs.

I wouldn’t swap Rudoni for Harvey Elliot, or Grimes for James Ward Prowse even though in theory both players are far more proven in the Premier League.

Take Milan his pace in the championship helps mitigate for some positional errors but in the Premier League the wingers are equally blessed with Pace. Therefore would his pace be enough ???

The main thing for this window is to give us more first options to optimise our chances of promotion.

I would expect one very significant signing, one development signing and at least one loan ….

Frank has made it clear he wants a bigger squad, recent injuries have shown how quickly your bench can look limited, and Doug knows we have a fabulous opportunity and won’t want to undercook our chances of success for the sake of a loan signing.

I’d be looking at Whittaker as a backup option in case Rushworth gets injured, we are light in that area atm

Whittaker is a confidence player who has been scoring recently after a long drought. Would cost too much for us and doubt if he is for sale.

The problem you get as a Prem team though, is that prices double or treble. We got Torp for 2m as a champ team, but as a Prem team we would have been quoted 6m+. 3.5m for Milan would have been 8-10m.
Even a smart team like Brighton struggle to get bargains e.g. 9.5m for Cashin, 30m for that Greek kid.
This transfer window could actually be our last chance not to pay the premier league tax.

Players like Marlon Rogers , Jarrod Bowen and Andy Robertson were all bought from Championship sides so there are players to be found

Sign the best players available, competition for players is so fierce in the Prem.

Personally, I couldn’t see us signing anyone for more than £20m. Presuming we got there!

Of the potential teams going down from the Prem who do you reckon we could take and would be a good fit, the teams I’d say at risk at the moment are:
Wolves, Burnley, Leeds and West Ham

If I were Doug, I'd be tempted to keep the model and only buy young players we can make a turn on. And maybe only five or six of them too: just enough to get our squad numbers up. And spend maybe only 70% of the TV money: an average of £10m - £12m per purchase.

Let's face it, we could spend a fortune and still go down. Better to continue the long game with incremental improvement and long term financial health of the club.

It puts us in prime position to go back up in 27/28 and yoyo until the squad has the quality to stay up.

The return on investments could be good as well if one or two turns out to be a top player

Yep my opinion too , far to easy to forget the terrible position we were in under sisu , keep the spine of the team we have and then build up a larger squad , the advantage we have this year is having a settled squad

17th in the Prem would be a bigger achievement than promotion. We don't need mercenaries there for the season, we need them invested for the long haul and tbh I wouldn't rip up what we have. A lot of them are young and still have improvement in them. A sprinkling of genuine quality that has a resale value if it doesn't work, rather than wholesale changes I think would be preferable.

Rushworth on a permanent, some competition for Rudi and some PL experience in defence is about as far as I'd go.

Need to add a minimum of 3-4 who are proven. I get the argument behind returns on players, but if you view the fact that ‘if’ we stayed up then we get another £120m or whatever it is, that’s your return on the proven players.

I wouldn’t abandon the younger players entirely, but they are not mutually exclusive.
