Cba to be overly generous, the list would probably look something like..
Boro: Hackney
Bristol City: Mehmeti
Hull: Hughes
Ipswich: Philogene
WBA: Price
Watford: Louza & Chakvetadze (if he's still the same player after injury)
Leicester: Fatawu & Monga (for potential)
That's genuinely about it and as I said I'd probably only bring in 2 at tops because you don't want to overdo the Championship thing.

Spot on. Of course there’s the odd diamond who perhaps people have not taken risk on - look at Jack Clarke - super player in championship - just not quite good enough for PL.

if we go up, we need athletic dynamic players firstly, that’s the biggest difference. It’s sad as the team as is will get torn up but that’s the stark reality.

I don't think it'll get torn up really. I think all of what you'd consider our best 11 right now will be on the bench at the very least.

Took my lad to Fratton Park yesterday. Awful game but Memehti looked good for Brizzle.

He was showing off for Lampards scouts. Absolutely begging it.

I think MvE gets in for his pace and long throw but if he didn’t have one of those I wouldn’t be so sure. Rudi gets in cos Frank sees himself there and he’s quality. I suspect Thomas might sneak in. Certainly if he keeps playing like yesterday.

Sacrilege but I think we’ll need better everywhere else for the first team including Grimes. I think his lack of pace will be an issue at that level. Agree that beyond the first XI the likes of Haji Torp etc will have a role to play.

Thought Louza and one of the wingers at Watford looked class. Hackney at Boro is an obvious choice, but don't think I've ever seen him have a game he's dominated the midfield.

Sorba Thomas maybe?

Hamer

I think if Lampard got hold of Hackney he’s take him to another level.

A signing like Granit Xhaka is worth far more to the team than people realise when it’s first made.

Hackney and Monga yes. Think Hackney has a lot of qualities and a great engine, Monga looks exciting and is very young still.

Whittaker and Hughes hard no from me. Don’t think either are particularly great / couldn’t make the step up.

Tbh I can't be arsed to go fully through it but if it was me spending the funds I'd want real quality over spreading thin on players possibly no better than what we have. You give me £70 - £100 mil I'm spending it on 6-7 players as close to sure things as you can get. 4-5 we have now will have to step up and others will get the chance from the bench too. Don't rule them out under Lampards coaching, the improvement has been insane.
If I was a betting man, if we go up I think maybe 4/5 that are here now would start opening day. Hope we are having this convo again in the summer though.

Don't know what he has been like recently but Jaden Philogene was the most promising attacking player in the championship not so long ago. Not that I think we'd get him.

Would play for England under Lampards guidance. Boro might still go up automatically themselves though, no one else seems to want it.

The thing is if most teams played the whole season as they did against us they’d be near the top. But they can’t because that level of performance is bloody difficult to sustain.

I think it would only be Rushworth (if you count him), Hughes and Hackney.

Really want us to avoid the championship super team route, doesn’t seem to work

Whittaker is excellent. He is strong, fast and has an excellent shot on him. He is just like any other player and needs to be used to his strengths. He would slot perfectly into our side.

Did you see him against us? Only an excellent save from Rushworth stopped him from scoring 2 very good goals against us. Did you see Lampard have a chat with him after the game?

forgive me for wanting more than a player who’s scored 5 in 33 games for his current club in the prem

I’d only want the big hitters who are obviously too good for the league; Hackney, Fatawu, Philogene, Hamer etc. But I suspect we’d find better value abroad.

Lesta carry on as they are you could probably pinch Fatawu in January…

He also got dropped by Ipswich in the Prem because he struggled so much.

From what we currently have,

Those likely to make the step up as starters:
- Rushworth (sign on a permanent)
- van Ewijk
- Grimes
- Rudoni

Those likely to make step up but more bench/rotation players:
- Dovin
- Thomas
- Torp
- Sakamoto
- Mason-Clarke
- Wright

Those with potential
- Dasilva
- Kitching
- Kesler-Hayden
- Eccles
- Thomas-Asante
- Simms

Those who could be good for squad but not quite good enough:
- Wilson
- Woolfenden
- Bidwell (sell)
- Brau (loan)
- Latibeaudiere (sell)
- Allen (release)

Those who aren’t good enough:
- Collins (Release)
- Perry (loan)
- Andrews (loan)
- Moore (loan)
- Raphael (loan/sell)
- Obikwu (loan)
- Daush (loan)
- Bassette (sell)

He's hardly excellent, that's a ridiculous take. When he decides to turn up he can be a decent winger at this level but he's nowhere near good enough to be playing in the PL, not even close.

Much better players at this level have struggled to adapt.

Yeah I think this also. Even though Grimes is our most important player at the moment.

So from my list we have a GK, RB, CM, AM in the starting team, potentially a CB, CM, RW, LW as well. We’d have a suitable number 2 and number 3. Then those in the potential category are probably good enough in the squad, if we made 9 signings. I’d limit to maybe 2/3 from the championship being Fatawu/Philogene, Hackney/Louza, Hughes. To me you sign one of the wingers or CM and maybe Hughes but there’s probably better cheaper CBs we could get as he isnt that much of an improvement on what we have. To me I’d go more abroad to:
- Eredevise (netherlands)
- Top 5 leagues (E,F,I,G,S)
- Scandanavian leagues
- Liga Nos (Portugal)

Whilst Grimes is excellent, I worry about his physicality in the prem.

I dont think so, the thing that separates players from top championship to premier league capable is the mental game and speed of thought, Grimes for me is top of the list for capable, and Thomas Im not sold on that just yet for him, and I think potentially players like Dasilva and Torp are potentially up there dependent on keeping their quality as they’re top for speed of thought and mentality too, the thing that could stop Dasilva though is the physicality and pace

I think we would bring in 6 or 7 quality players.
Only Hughes and Rushworth of the players already mentioned and the rest from Europe where theres still value to be had.

I'd suggest the biggest thing is the pace and physicality between champ and prem.

I think he’d be more than capable its a bit more questionable with Rudi and Torp potentially, will he be able to do it in the same midfield 3 probably not and I think we’ll invest in a partner for Grimes and have Torp and Rudi competing off the bench with a quality 10 and 6/8 signed

I’s say thats fair but there’s been top players from this league that have been physically capable and struggled due to the increased speed in the game and struggling to keep up

Just remembering L1 promotion and who we thought would make it in the championship. Can anyone find the thread?

If/when we go up I think the first season will be all about survival as it is.with every club. I think we would see a formation change to 5 at the back with 2 holder's in front and we would play counter attack football. The Prem is all about pace so signings would be pacy and athletic and maybe a couple of older heads.
How about a homecoming for Callum Wilson? Played 9 games this season for a total of 420 minutes with 4 goals. He's never going to play every week but when he does he produces. I'm sure we could match his West Ham contract if we went up.
