Been talking tonight with a few friends about players we think would be decent signings if/when we go up . Obviously we would need more than just players from the Championship but a few names came up

Louza - Watford
Leif Davis - Ipswich
Hackney , Whittaker - Boro
Monga - Leicester

Any others ?

It's just important whoever we get has to be be able to make the step up to the premier league

I am sure premier league players are realistic targets now too

And across the world many will jump at the chance to play on premier rleague

Dean Austin has a whole new menu to choose from now

Agreed but we aren't going to be able to financially afford a load of premier league players

From what I’ve seen Hackney and Louza yes the others I’ve not seen enough of. I wouldn’t want more than one or two championship players though, we’ve got a squad full of some of the best and would rather augment it with quality and experience than too many stepping up for the first time.

Leif Davis is a good championship player but isn’t cut out to make it in the Prem.

Hackney is a player with Premiership quality but doubt we’d sign him.

In fact, I can’t see us going down the ‘Super Championship Team’ route Ipswich went down. Looking at Sunderland and Forest, the model is probably looking at players from abroad with the odd pickup from the league below.

Gut feeling tells me King would have a right good go at keeping us up in the transfer market.

No absolutely , I think we should try and sign 2-3 but by no means follow the Ipswich model

Problem is that we will be looking at the same players that many others are interested in .
Will be interesting to see where the next untapped market is? We've had Portugal , eastern Europe , Scandinavia and far east

Louza
Hackney
Mikey Johnston
Jacob Greaves
Johansson (we’ll need an elite shot stopper in the Prem and he’s the best pure shot stopper)
Fatawu
Harwood-Bellis
Monga (as one for the future)

End of list.

Edit: Would maybe add Leo Scienza too.

Louza , Hackney and Monga were my preferred three . Let's hope we sign Rushworth if we go up as him and Dovin would be a great pair to choose from

Last season's relegated prem teams are ripe for plucking, so if Ipswich and Southampton fail to get promoted, i think we should cherry pick their best players.
I would have said Leicester too, but they're shit.

Ipswich spunked 120 million and went down with a whimper. Sunderland have spent 150 million + and have every chance of staying up. They will struggle during AFCON as could lose 6 or 7 players so will need to bounce back after.

Whittaker is excellent. He is strong, fast and has an excellent shot on him. He is just like any other player and needs to be used to his strengths. He would slot perfectly into our side.

Did you see him against us? Only an excellent save from Rushworth stopped him from scoring 2 very good goals against us. Did you see Lampard have a chat with him after the game?

The reality is, to stand any chance we’ll need to spend between £100m-200m on essentially a whole new squad. Best case is a couple of elite champ players (eg. Hackney) but mainly focus in Europe and also try and take a few of the decent players from the sides that go down.

From the current squad, I’d split it like this:

Players who could start in the prem:
Rushworth
MvE
Grimes

Players who I’m 50/50 on but think they could make the step:
Thomas
Torp
Rudoni
Dovin

Likely ok squad players:
Kitching
Sakamoto
Wright
EMC

So that’s 11 players with the majority likely being more rotation level but we’d need likely a majority whole new starting XI and crucially a new front three and I don’t see any champ attackers who’d I’d pay significant money for.

Would love to grab Monga.

Shea Charles
Anis Mehmeti
Sondre Langas

Personally I’d love us to just grab all the best championship players and then if we go down we are locked and loaded

Loser mentality and doesn’t really work anymore (Ipswich/Luton as some recent examples).

We shouldn’t be immediately trying to plan for 2027/28 back in the championship.

Ipswich did this got relegated and have not really hit ground running either.

would look at Sunderland as better example.

Hackney and louza, especially Hackney ones to look at. Rushworth yes.

the rest, meh. Monga got no chance! Half of Europe is after him!

Why would we be looking at signing the better players from the Championship to play in the Prem? We already have some of the best Championship players and most are saying they're not good enough for the Prem.

Luckily we have Lampard who knows what is needed.

Said before building a 'Championship super team' doesn't really work. I'd look at maybe 2 players maximum from a small list of maybe 10 players maximum. I would be really happy if we looked at Mehmeti in Jan as I do think he's one with Prem potential.

You’ve got to assume every champ player has been extensively looked at and decided against by every PL club really. Obviously they’ll miss some but it’s probably the least likely league to find pl quality players if you think about it.

Prem clubs also miss a lot of quality in the Championship. Crystal Palace are one of the few teams that are good at it and they regularly pick up really top players.

Spot on. Of course there’s the odd diamond who perhaps people have not taken risk on - look at Jack Clarke - super player in championship - just not quite good enough for PL.

if we go up, we need athletic dynamic players firstly, that’s the biggest difference. It’s sad as the team as is will get torn up but that’s the stark reality.

The clubs have the money though. If they don’t buy someone it’s because they don’t think they’re good enough really. Out of interest how many of Palaces starting lineup are from the Championship and started regularly in their first season out of it? Bringing a couple int the squad and up to standard is a different prospect from adding more to an existing Championship squad. You’ve got to assume we’ve got zero PL players really. Maybe Rudi who has attracted some serious non promoted team interest but that’s about it.
