Potential replacements for Marlon (1 Viewer)

If Marlon King leaves next month, which as we all know, is a distinct possibility, who would you like to see us sign as his replacement?
Obviously, we don't have a vast amount of money to spend, but who could we attract?

I've always thought David Nugent wouldn't be too bad, ex-England and out of contract at Pompey from what I've heard. Maybe getting on a tad now-a-days though

I think (not certain so please correct if wrong) the following are free agents in the summer:

Kevin Phillips - Birmingham
Gary Taylor Fletcher - Blackpool
Billy Clarke (has 1 year option though) - Blackpool
Brett Ormerod - Blackpool
Zavon Hines - West Ham
Harry Kewell - Galatasaray
Mikael Forssell - Hannover
Florian Jozefzoon - Ajax (would be a MASSIVE signing, however highly highly unlikely)

Rather coincidently David Nugent turned 26 today I think.

Nugent I think would have to take a drop in salary from the crazy Pompey days. I reckon a team more capable of challenging will go for him, maybe even a Stoke or a wolves.

Proper keen on seeing how Ricky Lambert performs in this league. Bangs them in for fun at Saints.

Would take Mickail-smith any day of the week. Always a bit wary about signing relegated clubs players from the Champ.

And the Answer is...................."No'one"

We got Marlon King in a deal that was a spiritial rehabilitation coup by Aidy Boothroyde on the cheap.
After seeing him play I would estimate his value at £3,000000 on the open market, as he's on a Bosman, interested clubs can get him
for a big fat, back hander.

"Who could we get to replace him"?? just look at him, he's awesome, a real class act,...replace him??? impossible...

Understand the sentiment here, but what concerns me is this:

If we can't afford the wages to keep Marlon, how could we consider either or both costs involved in purchasing and payrolling some of the players mentioned above?

Marlon is effectively a free purchase, we only have to find the wages for him . Even if we payed an extra ten grand a week on top of his current salary, it would amount to approximately £500k for a season. Who would that buy us to replace him? Alternatively, we get a proven scorer on a free, but would end up with paying similar wages to what we can't afford for king.........so it looks a bit of a lost cause unless we can offer him enough to stay?

No one mentioned in this thread is anywhere near Kings ability. Ian Hume is laughable.

Ahh didn't realise Nugent was younger, but yeah I think wages are gonna be the biggest problem for us. I'd take a guess at anyone decent at Championship level is gonna be on more than we can pay them.

I reckon we're gonna have to get someone young, not as good from the lower leagues and hope they're some sensation, in which case they'll probably be snapped up by someone else. Hmm :(
