Bidwell’s follow-up shot after the penalty miss hit the bar but was he fouled as he struck the ball? The Oxford player dived in, leaving Bidders lying face down, with arms outstretched, appealing to the ref.

I was too busy shaking my head to be honest.

Didn't notice.

Simms isn’t a penalty taker, lacks the technical ability for me.

Don't think I've ever seen a own given when a player follows up from a pen that's saved or hits the post and is fouled.

There’re better players than Ellis Simms who have missed penalties. It happens. Probably not worth over analysis.

That being said I didn’t want him to take it!

Yeah think he was fouled from behind as he went to shoot

Simms is just so unconvincing. He looks like he lacks confidence

All strikers should want to take penalties but I never felt confident when I saw it was him. Plenty of better players miss penalties (Messi and Ronaldo have missed 31 each) but it should have been Eccles or Grimes.

I still think he should have scored though.

No doubt in my mind Sheaf should have stepped up.

We dont really have anyone on the pitch id class a competent at penalties.

Just Torp and Haji. And id use the word competent not great.

Grimes or Eccles for me. Sheaf's shooting is terrible, very erratic, the last person you want an opportunity to fall to.

Sheaf has the worst shooting in the squad.
I'd sooner see him as a defensive midfielder, and keep as far away from shooting as possible.

When I saw Simms holding the ball I thought he was keeping it warm for somebody else like Grimes,Eccles or even Sakamoto.

Would Mason-Clarke not be an obvious contender to take one?

We’ve already won a shoot out this season, and looking at the takers all of them apart from Bassette are first team. Add Haji and Grimes into any hypothetical Wembley shootout and it should hopefully be third time lucky!

Wright isn't the best penalty taker either. Good for me with my topscorer bet and I'm an advocate for strikers should always take pens

Emc could handle it. So could Grimes. I wouldn't want sheaf anywhere near it

I think Simms would have been about 6th or 7th on my list of who should have taken it. It's good that he showed the confidence and belief in himself I guess.

Wright has an excellent record, even if he doesn't always look that convincing.

13 out of 15 career penalties scored.

And of course it doesn't get much more pressurised than stoppage time of an FA Cup semi final at Wembley.

Did he show the confidence though? Looked dead nervous, I thought. I couldn't believe it was Simms who stepped up to take it, and it looked like he couldn't believe it either. They must practice pens in training so I suppose Simms must have got the job based on that

Wright has been a quality pen taker for us, his only miss was So'ton where he slipped because of the pitch

I mean that he showed confidence/balls to step up and volunteer.

I agree that he didn't look physically confident though!

You just knew Simms was going to miss as soon as he got the ball

he’s not a penalty taker

grimes or Eccles should have took it

If only he tried to control it, it would have smashed into the top corner. Only player I know who controls it further than he can kick it.

Eccles looked like he asked for it and should of took it, but someone made the call to give it to Simms. Im just glad it never cost us 3 points, hopefully if we get another one Wright, Torp or Rudi will be on the pitch or Grimes will demand the ball.

The follow up was also a pen but you never get them after just missing one. Only way you get it is with VAR really.

It should be a strikers dream to be given the chance to score unopposed from 12 yards

Let Dovin take them, consistently the calmest man on the pitch so he wouldn't even be worried about the idea of getting caught out of his goal.

Re: Simms penalty, I think we have all seen that Simms finishing is much better when it's instinctive and he doesn't have time to think. He struggles when he has time and options missing a fair few 1v1's last season. A pen he has too much time and too many options, it was always going to be a disaster.

Seem to remember Alex Stepney taking penalties for Man Utd?
