I think confidence and energy count for so much in a striker. I'd rather throw a Ponticelli in than a Harries or a DKE TBH.

Maybe the reason we've not bought another striker in is Robins sees Ponticelli playing a decent part in the season.

I think it's more because we've missed out on targets. Still think he will bring one in though.

We can't afford to rely on Ponticelli no matter how much promise he has.

We need to find the right striker. Then let Ponticelli develop at his own pace.

And who is to say he is not ready now?apart from a couple of friendly's no one has given him a chance. Younger footballers have been thrown in the deep end and flourished!

If he is ready he will keep the shirt. But we can't assume. Young players can lose confidence easily. It is a big step up no matter how well he is doing in the U23 and a season can be a long long time. We would be foolish to rely solely on him delivering the goods. But that doesn't mean he cant.

And about lots of people that have failed. I believe if he is good enough he will get his chance and if he performs consistently he will keep the shirt. What we don't want is to have to keep playing him when/ if he loses form.

He's what? 4th or 5th choice striker (Biamou, Beavon, McNulty and Kwame all arguably ahead of him) in a team that really only plays one up front. We are hardly relying on him. But he's obviously a kid full off confidence and if we end up playing some good attacking football that will create chances I don't see the harm in throwing him in now and again.

I am referring to people who seem to be putting him forward as 'should be in the team'. I think he will be given chances this season from the bench. The ball will be at his own feet then, so to speak. But even if he got off to a flyer.....I agree, those other players have to pull their weight and fans should not be moaning if Ponticelli were to dip in form (hypothetical).

His aim this season should be to try and establish himself as a contender for a shirt and step up into at least a place on the bench.

To be fair what I have seen of Kwame so far I would put Ponticelli in front of him and I have only seen him play for about 15 minutes, thats not to say he looks so much better than Thomas but Thomas looks so much shitter than I remember

Even if he does start most games this season and bangs in 30 goals this season, by next may he'll be linked with umpteen premier league/championship clubs and pittances of offers will be made for him. Just look at what's happened to mr Thomas, lucky to still have him.

For now..

We need a striker we know can score. And if he can bring it on into the first team we would have two that can score goals. What is the problem with that?

Exactly. What do we do if we get to September and think, oh dear he's not ready yet. Need a proven scorer and if Ponticelli is ready we will have 2 strikers who can bang in the goals, if he's not then we have a safety net.

And if he isn't ready he has someone to learn from. Even if he is ready he will have a lot to learn.

He was unlucky not to score yesterday, however if he keeps getting chances and into positions he will score goals.

Does anybody else think robbins may see a bit of himself in ponticelli? I believe he will nurture the lad this season: give him playing time but not overuse him and help him with his positional play etc
