Tudgay deserves a place on the squad above most. Despite his limitations he has never hidden, never shirked his duties and never complained

Many of our "better more deserving" players could learn a lot from Tudgay.

Ponticelli coming in done him no favours as they tend to play with a lone striker. It was Sambou last year and Ponticelli was never being shifted wide this year with his goalscoring record.

Still a good player though IMO, hopefully he can find another club.

TLTW: Little dissapointed to not get on bench last season with lack of goals. Already on his pre season training plan & wants to come back stronger than anyone else his age in the squad.

Sounds like he's got his sights firmly on making the 1st team soon, cannot help but think if he don't make the bench a few times if he continues to excel he may get itchy feet tho he seems level headed and very grounded.

Yes after Pompey offered £90k and we were expecting the best part of £1m. The tribunal set a fee much closer to their valuation than ours. Within 12 months he was playing for England, scoring at the Maracana and then moved to Milan for that £1m fee

Really hope Robins gives Ponticelli a chance this season. Think he would be wrong not to. Seems to me like this lad has got some serious quality that perhaps surpasses Sambou.

Agree with some of the above comments ,it would have been illogical to give him playing time last season considering the lack of quality in the team.

It might be the end of him if we again throw him under the bus into the first team when quite clearly not ready. How many have we seen that happen to in tha last decade or so?

I'm not saying he's ready but what are you basing him 'clearly not ready' on? Surely not just one game (when he scored)? Out of interest, are there any players you do think are 'ready' from what you've seen?

No from what I have seen but that is only 5 or 6 games. Maybe some have seen more and could give a better insight? What I would say though is Burge,Rcc,Harries,Dke,Haynes,Stephenson,Bigi (although no longer here) have over 250? games between them but some would say (including myself) are still not ready and should be nowhere near the first team.

You also said Gary McSheffrey was a one season wonder though tbf and got lucky to score that many goals in a season - despite scoring double figures for 3 consecutive seasons before his move. It just seems you want to criticise anyone and anything regardless of the truth.

If you think Ben Stevenson shouldn't be anywhere near the first team then I'd question your knowledge and understanding of the game.

Really? Ok then, that's your opinion. For me he didn't perform (and not on his own) in 2/3rds of the games he played last season and should have been taken out of the team. And there lies the trouble, because of this he is again another one thrown under the bus due to the situation we're in because of the incompetence of what's happening off the pitch.

And Kyel Reid performed well in even less games. In my view, for most players, it's consistency more than ability that dictates where they end up. And you've got to give them a chance and a run of games to see that.

A top 10 Championship club made 3 bids for Stevenson, worth over £1m. They have a very good record of picking up players on the cheap from the lower leagues and abroad then selling them on for millions - Scott Hogan, Moses Odubajo, Andre Gray and Jota in the last few years. They would have seen similar ability and potential in Stevenson.

Based on this I would suggest they have a good scouting network in the lower leagues. To try and say he's not good enough to be in the team is ridiculous IMO. Perhaps Brentford should drop their scouting network and instead go on various teams forums.

Wolves bid for Ryan Haynes in January. He's 21 years old and has clear potential to become a good player above League 1/2 standard. However, you obviously know better than all these Championship clubs.

No wouldn't say that-just what I've seen (the same on you) on the pitch over the last 3 seasons from him which has contributed to us ultimately ending up in L2.

I do think you and others expect too much these are young players making their way in the game and don't care what league they play in some mistakes will always happen as for Ryan Haynes might just be the teams looking at him think like me he has great potential playing further forward .The rest of the youngsters you mention especially Stevenson have ever right to be playing, most of the problems have not been of their making it is the loans and short term buys who have no loyalty to the club and will move on quickly .I think you will find these players you mention will form the majority of the team and I just think that is our best hope . I notice Mark has given some of the ones coming in 2 year contracts this can only be a good thing

The problem is with the youngsters coming into the 1st team is that yes they are finding their way into the game but they were thrown in at the deep end and expected to perform like seasoned pros. Wuth Ponticelli he will almost definitely get a chance this season IF he progresses in the U23's if he dont theres no point in giving 1st team games

Linked with moves to Premier League clubs this morning (Leicester and Everton). Our past record would indicate that we will cash in for pittance and never actually see him pull on the shirt. Shame, had high hopes for him next season.

Any young player (and I know it's easy for me to say when I don't have the offer of millions on the table) should look at the statistics for how many minutes academy players get on the pitch in the PL, before making the decision to jump ship at such a young age. Moving from playing against men in competitive games back to reserves / youth games is regressive, no matter if the team is in the PL or not.

The kid might have a chance to go from a L2 jackass club to the Premiership.

If he goes you can't blame him one bit. He will have jumped up 3 leagues. It might take us 5 years to just get back to the Championship from L2.

I don't think anybody would blame him, that's football.

He can go there and sit in the reserves / youth teams and earn thousands a week.

It's another Sambou situation, George Thomas was always above him in the pecking order and haven't managers commented themselves Ponticelli isn't fully ready yet?

A player should be finding his level, his agent should be looking at his potential career earnings. In the end the agent has the biggest persuasive tool, players running around taking the same risks for thousands less is a question most will be asked. The answer to this question then makes the decision of financial security early on in a career a no brainer and becomes the key part of a decision.

Agents like Lee Marsh has played the game and will know the risks and potential reward it can bring. He looks at it as business no more, no less. We may not like it but his role in the game is here to stay and the more players are playing with a desire for the lifestyle it brings his job will become more needed.

I do think most fans understand its only a job for those involved, but i also believe some believe loyalty will play a part in decisions made by players. This thought is not a part of the thinking when offers come in, it's about the financial package including relocation that plays a massive part in any signing. I would say loyalty comes in a very sorry last in adding up all the factors in contract and signatures.

Anyway to me the story reads like his agent has been in touch with The Sun (most transfer stories happen this way). Trying to get his name out there more & hype him up.

Any of the interested clubs could easily pay him 5 times or more the amount he's on currently. He did sign new pro terms before xmas I believe so it will be a fee for him

Sign of the times and the premier league money in the game.

Could his agent be talking him up of the back of a very successful U18 campaign to get a better deal here, and seek assurances he's gonna be involved in the match day 18 and not limited to the u23 league at a worse case or better still he moves to a better academy earning a living wage his agent thinks he's deserving of tho potentially distancing him from any 1st team.
Financially it's win win all round for Jordan and his agent.

We're a league two club now how much of a priority is keeping a player like Jordan? Compared to putting the best competitive side out in the league for the budget. Could MR offer much better terms for a player who he may not be seen to warrant a place in the 18 man squad currently till he shows a bit more development in the u23's and take away some of the budget for the 1st team.
