This is a disgrace - Jordon Ponticelli, the only game time he gets with Tranmere is training sessions? why is he not playing for our U23, as Tranmere don't run a U23 side

Tranmere Rovers were lining up against Manchester United's Under-21s side in the Leasing.com Trophy at Prenton Park, an ideal opportunity for the 21-year-old to get some game time for his loan club after being shipped out on loan -But he was once again left out of the matchday squad altogether and has now been without first-team action since October 8th. “Tranmere don’t really have a development team at the minute. They play Under-18 Academy games so he hasn’t really been playing at all." Ponticelli has not even been clocking up Under-23s minutes with Tranmere currently without a development squad, limiting his competitive action to that of training sessions.

It seemed an odd loan when it was made. Can't really see the point of him being there. When is he out of contract? Has he basically been told he's got no future here so he's trying to line something else up?

With the shortage of forward players we've had the fact we didn't keep him, even if just to sit on the bench and play for the U23s, suggests he's a long way from breaking through.

He Signed a 4 year deal in Sept 2017 so still a few years left.

He needs to drop down to league 2 in my opinion, he's only 21 and is a natural born finisher. With the right nurturing he could become very good. People expect more from him because he has been in and around the first team for so long but people forget his age.

But what age do we expect him to step up? Bakayoko is only 23 but he’s expected to bang goals in,

ponticelli has gone to tranmere and is evidently not good enough for them at the bottom of our league. What makes you think he’ll be good enough at the top end where we aspire to be

With respect, the same was said about JCH who is banging them in. It depends on the style of football the gaffer wants to play. He might not be good for our style of play but perfect for another.

We can't recall him outside the transfer window. He needs to go to the conference.

I don't know why so many think he's the next Messi, is it because he's a local lad?

The biggest point is that he is not getting a chance to show what he can do - nobody can really say if he's not good enough for the bottom of the league as he has played 45mins

Apart from their manager who has judged him not good enough. Barry from Londford is convinced he's Pele though.

When hes been given first team chances here he hasnt produced. I agree with whats the point of him going there but he isnt the answer to our goal scoring issue and i think we will probably terminate his contract sooner than it expires.
Clearly not rated by MR and probably needs to drop to the conference to have a chance of playing

I have serious doubts that he will make it but the lad deserves a crack at first team football and a chance to prove himself. This loan has not been good for the player and questions need to be asked.

Yeah but you’ve got to question why their manager isn’t playing him - if tranmere don’t think he’s got what it takes then why would he be good at our end?

Thing about JCH he’s shown flashes of what he can do at other clubs - Ponticelli is Being deemed not good enough to play for us or Tranmere that’s both professional teams at our level.

would have been interesting to see what he could do at Macclesfield but of course he broke his ankle

This case shows one of the downsides in the fixed window changes
A few weeks back we only had Baka fit from all the senior forwards at the club
In the past we'd have called Ponti back to at least be on the bench and definitely to play in the EFL Trophy games

We can't recall him, but can Tranmere send him back if they no longer require his services?

Unfortunately even if we could agree for his return because Tranmere don't need him our U23's are on a break until Jan now so he wouldn't be able to get game time with us either. If we played him in a match he'd have to stay here for the rest of the season because he'd have played for two different clubs. Two years in a row he's not had any luck - last year with injury, this year being sent on loan to a team where he can't even prove himself in reserves to get a game because Tranmere don't have a reserve team.

On the other side of the coin for others every second he doesn't play he gets worse and worse. Some seem to think he can barely put one foot in front of the other

Apart from having the best GPM ratio in his last season where he played for us - including McNulty.

Some people seem to have forgotten he didn't play last season at Macclesfield due to injury. OK, the Tranmere manager isn't picking him but sometimes a face just doesn't fit and the manager just doesn't take to you. You go somewhere else, fit right in and make the previous manager look a bit silly getting rid of you - JCH for example.

We could do with loaning him to a league below on a deal were they pay if he doesn’t play to ensure he gets game time.

I guess the Tranmere manager doesn't think he can get what he wants for the team from the way Ponticelli plays. They're struggling a bit and maybe the manager wants someone with a better all round game to get them possession etc.

Ponticelli's big thing is putting chances away, but if Tranmere aren't creating chances he's not going to get that opportunity. We on the other hand are the total opposite - playing well, creating chances and not putting them away. It is a formula designed for someone like Ponticelli to thrive and I think he'd have deserved a chance off the bench at least (or even a start with Godden injured and the performance levels of Baka and Hiwula) had he been here.

Not good enough or doesn't fit into the Tranmere manager's system because they're struggling? We're a completely different proposition that IMO suits Ponticelli's attributes.

There are some players at good teams out there who if you take them out of the good team they're playing for would struggle. For example most modern day full backs that look great for top teams would IMO be a liability at a struggling team because they're good going forward but defensively are very weak.

He's currently injured. That being said, Tranmere gave him virtually no game time even when he was fit.
People forget he has already scored six goals for our first team and was leading scorer for our U23s.
I would guess at the moment his confidence is totally shot because of lack of game time.

Weren’t the majority of those against Maidenhead and the other national league side we played in the cup?

Strikes me for his own benefit he needs to get a loan to a club in division 2 or just below and try and get a decent half season under his belt, obviously not seen to be good enough at Tranmere, bench warming is no good to him.

You've got to feel a bit sorry for the lad, he's had some awful luck with injuries.

And there's absolutely no point in him sitting around where he can't get a game even in the reserves or U23s. If they don't want him and we can't get him back then it's a bit of a farce, imho...

It's hard to judge how good or otherwise he is if he can't get a game anywhere...

To give him half a chance he needs to be playing league football, there's got to be some league 2 teams desperate for a goal scorer
