Perfect for al parties I say.

Ponti looks like a talent and needs games to prove if he has what it takes or not.

He’s playing in the same division as us. If he does it for another team, he should be able to do it for us.

He’s on a 5 year deal (maybe 4 now since he signed it some time ago) and both he and us need to decide whether he is going to stick around for that period.

Good luck Ponti

Can’t see it myself. Love this “natural goal scorer” tab that gets thrown around. Some people think they are talking about Sergio Aguero!

Interesting comment by Ponticelli to say it’s nice to come to a club and feel ‘wanted’.
Dig at Robins or just an unfortunate turn of phrase?

Blond optimism?

Edit Blind optimism

He can finish it's if he physically can get into dangerous positions to make use if his finishing ability.

Im sure other clubs are similar but we are embarrassing for the 'one of our own' love. Some fans here point blank refuse to accept that any youth team player isn't very good. Ponticelli has done nothing to suggest he is a regular league one starter yet heart attacks are happening at the thought of him going on loan.
Many know I don't really rate Shipley at anything above a squad player yet again some here think he is amazing and warrants a start every week.
Burge was an exception yet even then he got given far more time than any other keeper of similar standard would have by certain sections of the fans.

Sounds like you are assuming it’s the same section of ‘one of our own’ fans blindly supporting all 3 players. Doubt that’s the case. It works both ways I’d say. Homegrown players have been loved and hated, and regardless of which side you are on for a particular player each side says they are loved or hated purely because they are homegrown. It’s nonsense.

Homegrown players get given far far longer then a bog standard new signing. I am not assuming anything I am merely commenting on what I read and I see that academy players are bullet proof regardless of ability.

He has by far and away the best strike rate at the club at every level he’s played. Something ridiculous like less than 1 in 2.

Getting a little bored of this trope to be honest. If anything we like to slag off our own under some auspice of “balance” and frequently get shown up as players go on to bigger and better things.

See this thread where people are saying a player that a team in our league has taken on loan is nowhere near the level needed to play at this level!

I think the issue with Ponticelli is that many fans (myself included) think he wasnt given enough of a chance to prove himself here. The odd 4 minute substitute appearance was hardly a fair crack of the whip.
Yet players like Chaplin seem to be the managers blue eyed boys and get picked every week even though they fail to produce the goods.
Now he's moved on, we might finally see if he is the player we hoped he'd be.

Agree with others on this it has to be a great move for both Ponti and ccfc, he is about fourth in the striker pecking order at the moment with the likelihood of one or maybe even two to come in. Ponti will hopefully be playing more first team games and getting much needed exposure and experience in the same division as us, we have him on contract so can grab him back next year or flog him on for a few bob, win win situation imo.

But isn't that because homegrown players tend to come through at an earlier age and therefore have a greater scope for development and need for experience than an average established new signing, as the academy/homegrown/U23 player is naturally further behind in their development? I think it's about age a lot of the time, not whether they are homegrown.

A lot of fans want instant success, from an owner who will bankroll an unsustainable club, down to the ability of the XI on the pitch and so don't have the patience or longer term view a manager in the secure position of Robins will. A start here and there, and a regular 20 minutes off the bench can be invaluable to a young player but there are times that might mean it's not the absolute best XI on the pitch.
The average fan would rather win 6-0 with the best XI than 2-1 and let a youngster get a chance to develop. Mason (appreciate he is not home grown) will be a much better player this season for his extended run in the team last year although there were games last season that Brown would have suited better, same for McCallum in his handful of appearances.
It's a fine balance for the manager but I love the reputation our club has developed for giving youth a chance and it is benefitting us a club in hidden ways in terms of who is joining our academy and even the quality of loans we get. It won't always work out, it might be a Billy Daniels and not a Tom Bayliss but until you raise the ceiling for these young players you won't know how big they can grow and players develop at different speeds.

Difficult one since he’s never really been given a real shot here. Never going to set the world alight being given 10 minutes here, 5 minutes there.

Time will tell. I say, you owe me a pint if he gets 10 or more goals (in the season as it’ll likely get extended in january), and I owe you one if he doesn’t

Exactly this. When they first break into the side, the supporters naturally have a little more patience, but once they become established they, if anything, become more of a target. Bayliss and Shipley received more criticism than most last season, often by people who take this contrarian position where they're trying to balance out the 'one of our own' bias, which doesn't exist. I remember getting into a heated argument at Rotherham with a supporter who assured me that Wilson was shit. I remember Christie getting a disproportionate amount of stick also. It works both ways.

I've seen the lad play quite a lot
Very good movement, very hard for defenders to mark and gets into dangerous positions
He's snatched at things when given a chance in our first team but will learn to stay calm with experience
I reckon he will have a good career

From Jordan's perspective, this is the window of opportunity he's been waiting for for some time. If he succeeds here, I can see him coming back to us as a first team starter next season with work.

Good luck to the lad, let's hope he shines

I think local and homegrown players have to get more of a chance and therefore a bit more patience from the fans when they make it into the 1st team squad. If we bin off every player that comes though if they don't set the world alight straight away what does that say about recruitment of our academy system, we have to show potential new academy players and their families that we are a club that gives these players a chance.

He seems to have been around the fringes for ages as the hype train has been chugging away, and it's easy to forget that he's barely out of his teens. He has time on his side even if this loan doesn't work out.

Bakayoko had a better strike rate at periods last season.

He’s not had a sustained run in the team to take a realistic sample from. Connor Chaplin’s strike rate for Pompey based off minutes played:goals is similar to JP for us, albeit over 20-odd appearances.

Frankly, he’s an unknown character quantity and needs to prove himself elsewhere before he becomes a viable first team choice. Unfortunately, his opportunity last season was cut short with a nasty injury.

Thankfully, he has the opportunity to do this at Tranmere, and I want him to blitz it.

Ridiculous how people judge him to be shite based off 5 minute cameoes played more often than not in games which are a lost cause. Then throw around this "home grown bias" rubbish because others want to see a talented lad given a fair chance in the first team ahead of Chaplin and the like, who have far from delivered based on the number of minutes they've been given. Don't get it

I think we should all take into account that he was out most of the back end of last season with his broken foot, let’s judge him this season when he’ll be playing against the same opponents as us.

No, he's a talented lad based on the amount of goals he's scored in the u18s and 23s.... Which is a hell of a lot

I've also heard he's worked like a dog to get back to fitness after his injury
Another contributor said he looked like he needed to lose a bit of weight but it's actually muscle the lad has put on during the time he couldn't run due to his broken foot
Long term injured players often get forgotten which I think applies here
I expect him to do well given a run of games and he could surprise us all
