Weird place Lincoln. Some lovely parts in the town, but the people don't match.

I went to a Lincoln vs Grimsby (possibly a cup match) in the mid 2000's and it was the heaviest police presence I've ever seen for an English game.

It just seemed OTT. It's like us having police stood by the Bull and Anchor.

Probably intelligence led about potential to kick off with so many Coventry fans travelling. Remember there was a big knock between Nuneaton and Lincoln not so long ago. Nuneaton being a Coventry fans catchment area. That would be my guess. If nothing has happened they have done their job, prevention is better than cure.

What would you have preferred? Absolutely none whatsoever ? They are there as a deterrent. Yes there were a lot but it's their biggest game of the season. If you had taken a kicking with no police around you'd have asked a few questions. By all accounts a city fan took a slap from a bunch of Lincoln fans after the match. I hope he's okay.

They were rounding up some young Cov fans after the game surrounding them shouting and threatening to arrest them.
Why?
Just for walking down the street even Lincoln fans were ashamed with some trying to step in and having a word with them.
Heard one copper day stay away from them or you will and up with a banning order.......
Pretty heavy stuff

I heard that both sets of fans drank together before the game. Always a few wanting to cause trouble, that's football always been aggro and always will be. We know that's why large numbers of coppers are at most games, just in case !

Not really, don't expect personal protection.

Just thought it seemed overkill. Especially as after the game the way fans could just go wherever anyway, no segregation or anything.

Vans parked up on the bypass on the way in too

I never mentioned personal protection. I'm glad they were there. 2 or 3 gangs of Lincoln fans around after the game looking for action but they knew the old bill were there.

It was weird, they stood on street corners randomly but after the game I didn't see any down by the canal walking back to the car.

It wasn't an issue, they didn't hassle me. Just seemed way over the top before the game.

There is always a reason for the heavy police presence.

I took my lad today and I for one found them helpful and polite. For me they only become a problem if you force them into a corner or give them a reason....

Both clubs had sizeable hooligan elements in the city centre today...

They certainly was a few bad boys out today and a few faces from the past that I haven't seen in a while. Lots of Lincoln out and about as well. I spoke to a couple of coppers today and they were decent. Glad they were out and about as well as it wold have been bad news I feel if there wasn't a big police presence.

Really, I thought they were pretty ok ! Had a great crack with some of them especially the 'grey haired' lady and saw a lot of other fans having a chat and a laugh with them as well!

Thought the coppers were pretty chilled, certainly didnt have a problem with any of them, like Tommo72 said helpful, friendly and polite. Don't quite understand the negativity tbh.

We were right over on the far side, nearest the Home fans. Bad attitudes from a few, one threw an old bloke to the floor when we equalised, completely unwarranted.

I did laugh when in the final few minutes one of them were making their way down the stairs. I nudged my mate and said ‘move over a bit so the steward can get through’. No thank you or acknowledgement, just turned round and angrily stated ‘I’m not a steward’. It said ‘response’ on his back. Yes....You’re a steward.

Was anyone caught by the sniffer dog at the turnstiles? I've moaned in the past about cokeheads acting like knobs at games. There was not of that sort of tension yesterday so maybe it stopped a few getting in.
