Hello Everyone,

I'm just finishing my postgraduate at Leeds University and I am currently researching for a dissertation about the impact of negative comments or "trolling" of football clubs' social media channels, and in particular their Twitter accounts. I am trying to collect information from supporters who use these channels to communicate with football clubs’ official channels.

I was wondering if anybody would be able to take a couple of minutes to answer the following questions for me? All answers will be used solely for the purposes of the study and all respondents and clubs will be given highly unoriginal pseudonyms in the write-up!!

1. Do you interact with the club’s official social media channels regularly? And if so, why?

2. Can you describe a time when you saw another supporter of your club leave a negative comment or message on public display? Did you react to this, and if so, how did you react?

3. How much of a problem do you believe internet “trolls” to be on the delivery of official club content online?

4. Can you recall a time that you have ever “trolled” or made an online comment on another team’s activities in a negative way? If so, why was this, and if not, what would deter you from doing so? Did you receive any reaction from the club or fans of that club?

If you would prefer to DM me with your responses, please feel free to do so along with any other queries you may have about the study.

Thanks

Also, as a match-going football fan I feel very strongly about your current situation and the contempt shown towards supporters by removing football from your city. I will happily sign any petition to get Coventry back to Coventry if you can provide me with a link!!

1. Do you interact with the club’s official social media channels regularly? And if so, why?

No, because the comments section is just filled with abuse as most are.

2. Can you describe a time when you saw another supporter of your club leave a negative comment or message on public display? Did you react to this, and if so, how did you react?

Blocked all updates so I didn't see them any longer

3. How much of a problem do you believe internet “trolls” to be on the delivery of official club content online?

They're part of the internet as a whole, and so unavoidable. However, the club has created a rod for its own back so the people shouting back aren't necessarily trolling so much as venting legitimate anger.

4. Can you recall a time that you have ever “trolled” or made an online comment on another team’s activities in a negative way? If so, why was this, and if not, what would deter you from doing so? Did you receive any reaction from the club or fans of that club?

I don't think it's possible to talk about football without criticising the opposition. If we're talking deliberately trying to get a reaction by visiting their forums or similar though, that's not really my thing.

1. Refuse to visit the club site until they show respect for fans.
2. Everyone is entitled to their view irrespective of difference of opinion, so context of question is irrelevant.
3. As the club site is predominately propaganda (or was, don't know now) the content was poor, so trolling wouldn't make it worse.
4. No,never.

Good luck with your studies
