How many time did Reggie Genaux play? I know he complained about being kept out the team by Telfer and the Scottish mafia.

Not many.

We had a glut of signings in that period that seemed pointless. The two Hondurans, Evtushok, Laurent Delorge, Runar Normann. Even Phillipe Clement, an established international, only played a handful of times.

I know Delorge broke his leg soon after signing, and at least he played a part after relegation.

I remember we signed 2 under Sillet around 1990, after the Woirld Cup Italia 90, probably on loan. One was Uraguarian Centre Midfielder International Jose Perdermo, just checked him out, played about 6 app for Cov, always injured if I remember. Can´t remember the 2nd players name.

I remember seeing Perdomo play at HR. He seemed decent but a bit unfit. He was subbed off near where we sat. To 10 or 11 year old me he looked massive. I can’t think who the other might’ve been.

After a tiny bit of research, the second player was not South American but Hungarian, winger Zoltan Csucsansky was only on trial, played 1 pre season friendly game, got injured, trial ended.

Jairo Martinez, he was Honduran.

He scored a couple in the Championship (or whatever it was called then) the season following relegation.

IIRC he scored away at Barnsley in a mid-week match in the Championship. Or have I just imagined that?

You can add Isaias too - 1st Brazilian to play in the PL apparently. Made about a dozen appearances but fell out with Strachan.

England played Uruguay at Wembley in a pre-WC friendly & Perdomo scored the winner from a 30/35 yard free kick. About 5 minutes in on this

Some forgotten big names there…Ruben Sosa, Enzo Francescoli etc.
Uruguay have produced some amazing players over the years for what is a comparatively tiny country.*

*I always mention them when my Welsh friends start claiming the same.

Forgotten his name now but Big Ron bought a Ghanaian 'wonderkid' who scored in the League Cup for us and then never seemed to play again.

That was so strange, because he'd done exactly the same at Villa. But then, whatever it was that Atkinson may have once had, it had long gone by the time he got to us.

I think Lamptey also got badly screwed by his agent.

Don’t like Suarez but love his and Cavani’s story. Grew up together and went all the World Cup together. I do the same with my Welsh mates too.

Strachan bought a few young Scottish players who never got anywhere near the 1st team or whatever the u21/u23 development squad was at the time.

Just looked Jack McBean up on Wikipedia. He's 30 now! Time flies. Looks like he retired in 2018, only a couple of years after he was with us, due to a foot injury.
