Stuart Pearce drove a clapped out Ford Capri when he played at Cov. If my memory serves me correctly, the gate man at the King Richard Street car park (Highfield Rd) tried to turn him away when he turned up for his first game.

When I was a kid I worked at the pumps of the garage by the connexion roundabout - the CCFC players had an account there - this is back in 85 - I remember the most pleasant of all the players who would willingly chat while I filled their cars with 4 Star was Oggie had the time of day to talk to you and asked how you are - top gentleman a real decent human being - I want to call up the CWR after match one day and remind him of it

You should do because a lot of people have had let’s say “mixed” experiences meeting Ogg..

That can be said of any well known person. A lot can be about, the time, the place and the approach. Also a person's expectations, do they expect a quick hello, a quick autograph or do they expect them to engage in an hour's length of boring conversation.

Klinsmann drove a Beetle at Spurs when he must have been one of the highest-earning footballers in the country.

Once wandered through the Derby players car park many years ago. Was like a dealership for German SUVs.

It always strikes me that footballers don't have much imagination when it comes to their motors. Range Rovers and Mercs etc are all fine of course it if you were earning premier league money and could have pretty much anything you wanted, customised to your exact requirements wouldn't you go for something a bit more bespoke and interesting? I know I would.

i think alot do, i remember seeing gerrards RR for sale on auto trader once, all the inside was redone with #8 everywhere, and it was only 18months old before he sold it.

i imagine theyd have a few cars to go to training and run around's, and a few more would have some nice customed/vintage cars, but i agree its rare you see a player driving around in a testarossa or vintage aston martin

The sensible ones spend the cash elsewhere.

I think I have said before my pal used to live next door to Dean West the old Burnley full back he drove a Nissan Almera (something Nissan) the players in their posh cars took the piss constantly all the time he was buying property in the north I wonder who’s laughing now.

there was one club cant remember which, that if they got something like a red card or something, they had to drive a ford KA for the week.

(most of what ive said is going to be incorrect, like the car, the forfit etc )

Had a job to do at the Ryton training ground after it was refurbished in August and it was the first day back for everyone. Even bumped onto Doug having a look at what was done over the summer. Saw the players car and to be honest as a car enthusiast nothing really stood out as something really special. The type of Audis and BMWs a couple of years old etc. Nice cars but nothing you don’t see parked outside Waitrose etc.

I vaguely remember something about David James buying a Reliant Robin and making teammates drive it if they did something stupid. Seem to think it was the light-hearted story at the end of the news or something like that. It might have been in someway charity related I think.

David James shows off his Robin Reliant A Team dream machine for making the worst Champions League predictions at Portsmouth FC

It was a relic from the Chumpions League of motoring but here's goalie David James with the Reliant Robin that players transformed into an A-team dream machine.

This goes for anyone though. You get all sorts who spend a significant chunk of their monthly wage on a flashy motor just because they see it as a status symbol. It's such a poor investment, whether you make a lot or not.

Supporters are never the best at rating their own players. Look at how often our own players are supposed to be shite until it can't be denied any longer how good they really are.

One of the many reasons I drive older motors that I can buy outright. Feeling particularly smug today as my latest banger bargain that I bought at Christmas time has just sailed through it's MOT with no advisories

I'm not sure I could stick to my fiscally prudent motoring habits on a footballers wage though, I have a list of classic & specialist cars as long as my arm to take up space in my dream garage.

Same. I bought a 7 year old diesel for 3k when that's all I could afford, and years later when I could finally afford anything reasonable, new, I just didn't see the point. My car was passing MOT fine every year, minimal repair costs, low running costs, and did the job.
