I’ve only seen the highlights, but it looked like we absolutely dominated. JCH looked really, really good and McNulty’s goals were superb.

Finally glad to see we scored 2 goals from set-pieces — something I feel has held us back this year, so long may it continue.

we did. despite at lot of the comments on here in the first 15, we were in charge of the game. a great result and a great performance in our biggest win of the season. Honestly not sure what some fans expect

I had a rugby game myself, so looked at the match thread as soon as I got settled... The vibes you got was that we’d been beaten or held to a draw. As a collective, we’re such a negative bunch of fans.

Taking time to moan about Burge or Haynes in a game we won 4-0 in, instead of enjoying the more pleasing aspects of the result.

Do you not think that could be under instruction from the manager? If our manager was instructing McDonald or any of our defenders to play out from the back I’d be worried because they’re not good enough to do that

and definitely not on that pitch.

It’s the negativity of the comments that are disappointing, no half measures, no allowance for some of the good things Burge does, just focus on mistakes, or, yawn, kicking.

Burge 6 One good save from the 1 on 1 first half and the usual comedy moments from hI'm second half.
Grimmer 8 Great game from him today, solid and going forward to good effect aswell.
McDonald 8 Nothing got passed him and headed everything.
Hyam 8 Same as Rod-goes about his business no bells and whistles.
Haynes 6 Only gets a 6 based on the back 4 keeping clean sheet. Apart from that terrible and the game just passed him by.
Doyle 8 A proper captains performance.
Bayliss 7 Again looking to get forward and carries it into the danger area.
Shipley 7 Good delivery for the goal and set pieces good in general.
Vincenti 7 Got us going with the goal and had a reasonable game till subbed.
JCH 9 Some of his play and link ups were above the level.
McNumpty Paperwork 8 Good hatrick and link up play with JCH. Should have had another goal as well.
Reid 7 Looked dangerous when he came on and had a hand in the 4th goal.
Biamou 7 Waved at the crowed after the match-so extra point for him.
Kelly 6 Got his foot in but not much else.

Best performance of the season and we are finding form at the right time

Couldn’t get up today as I was working but a clean sheet and 4-0 win is all that matters to me , this time of the season points on the board is what counts , fair play to the lads!

Lol that was a good performance, but definitely not even in top 5 performances of season. It was good vs very poor Grimsby side.

We have played better and not won as convincingly.

Burge is a good shot stopper. Full stop. And that’s about it.

I’m Surprised to see Obrian dropped purely as he had a good game vs Crewe. He’s a better al round keeper imo.

would have kept O’Brien in too but Robins seems to rate Burge as the number one and will only play O’Brien if there’s illness/injury.

I would be frustrated if I was him. Played no league games for Pompey last season and I think only 6 this season. Even when he’s played well this season when been called upon he’s not retained his place

What makes you say obrien is all round better? You're entitled to your opinion of course, but he's only played a handful of games and made a couple of howlers. We've had a record number of clean sheets and the tightest defence in the league this season. I'm not saying that you're wrong, but hard to understand on what basis.

Really? Luton x 2, Grimsby and at Lincoln were games where we really imposed ourselves. Can't remember too many others league wise.

It’s a very close call.

Burge I won’t knock him what he’s achieved this season as the regular, he has made some crucial saves, amazing saves in games.

But I think we are all looking for the improvements in his games. He has made the odd howler.

There was almost a couple of comical errors today from him. I think Obrian distribution and kicking are definitely better, but then again Burge is not the benchmark.

Burge - that comedy moment, where he came out of the area, lost the ball, and ran straight into Hyam running back , nearly knocking both of them out and having no idea where the ball was. Not laughed so much in ages

1 goal was always going to knock the stuffing out of them and the timing of our first goal was always going to determine the final score.

Burge - 6 - He's a good shot stopper. Today he didn't have any shots to stop so it highlighted his flaws. Which are all other aspects of his goalkeeping.
Grimmer - 8 - Got forward really well and got a couple of decent balls in today. Grimsby left side didn't have the pace to expose his weakness.
Hyam - 7 - Completely lost his man for the free header saved off the line by their own player at 0-0 so -1. Passed the ball out from the back very nicely especially considering the pitch.
McDonald - 7 - Played alright today but his long passing lacked it's usual accuracy. Quiet as a mouse in that back 4, absolutely no leadership in him - Hyam does all the shouting and arm waving.
Haynes - 5 - You can tell with Haynes after 10 minutes if it's going to be one of his good games or one of his bad games. I'd have brought Reid on and moved Shipley to left back after 11 minutes.
Shipley - 7 - Marked up for a couple of decent set pieces but thought he also wasted several dead balls with floaty nonsense. Would have started Reid today, think his direct running would have been a lot more intimdating for a leaky Grimsby defense that Shipley's graft. Would still love to see him at left back.
Bayliss - 8 - Key to maintaining the form we're in.
Doyle -7- Looked good against a midfield with no strength or bite. Played well but today was a holiday for him.
Vincenti -7- He has got 1 speed and 1 speed only but people need to see beyond that. A neat footballer with the ball at his feet, lots of experience at this end of the football league and starting to chip in with a couple of goals at a vital part of the season.
McNulty - 8.5 - Thought his all round game was generally poor today and has looked like he need a goal from open play for a couple of games now. Continued to make good runs though and got his tap in which lead to a hattrick. Starting to build a better partnership with JCH.
JCH - 7.5 - 6 first and 9 the 2nd half. Gave an increasingly ragged Grimsby defence the run around 2nd half.

I don’t know how you’ve rated Haynes higher than Grimmer, Doyle and JCH. Haynes had by far the worst performance in the team today. Rod, Hyam and Grimmer make him look better than he is.

As mentioned many times, I like having Haynes in the team because he does create things from left back. Even setting JCH up with a 1v1 which he fluffed but Haynes didn’t have a great one overall yesterday.

As for Burge, don’t get the negativity yesterday. Apart from the one obvious moment where he ran into Hyam he had a really solid game. Actually as I’m typing I appreciate his distribution was pretty shit but he did what he had to do.

When you watch highlights of other keepers in this division and the goals they let in, he is definitely up there as one of the most solid in the league.

Errmmm, what about the time he threw the ball out to Bayliss when Bayliss had his back to him and was completely oblivious that the ball was coming his way?

Could have easily cost us a goal, that.

Was I missing something about yesterday? What did Haynes do that warranted him getting moaned about?
He was up against their only really threatening player and kept him quiet. He didn’t make any big errors (unlike Burge) yet people are giving him 5/10.
