We lost the game to a set play. Did you all not see McFazdean move run towards Baka who lost his man at the far post? McFaz was furious with him.
the only people coming out of this with credit are the back three. What annoyed me is the lack of creativity in midfield...it seemed like Ostogard was our best midfielder at times!

Too many players being carried at this level.

Godden is the only striker good enough in the whole squad.

Wilson ok apart from goal when he came half way then stopped. Caught betwixt and between.
Thought the three central defenders did well...apart from the goal (they were all drawn to centre of 6yd box...one should have dropped back a couple yards.
Dabo and mccallum largely ineffective going forward...only after their goal did the wing backs try and progress.
Sheaf and Allen did well. Allen looked good carrying ball on couple occasions and sheaf protected the defence well...looked very assured and his best game to date.
O’Hare...some good touches but never in the places to hurt Wednesday. We need to get him in box more.
Max ... does his best but that is not really good enough....needed Walker and Baka to provide better support
Walker...best I can say is he might have long COVID.

Some mad ratings again.

Wilson - 5 - shite for the goal, but a good save too.

Dabo - 5 - bit ropey on the ball, couple of good crosses when he managed to get forward, which seemed rare.

Osti - 6 - stupid decision to foul and give away freekick, I don't think that attack was going anywhere. Still a goal threat at the other end.

McFadz - 7 - solid other than that shot that went through his legs.

Hyam - 6 - some good bits bringing the ball out of defence, some dodgy clearances

McCallum - 5 - occasionally wasteful on the ball, felt as though we didn't need his defensive prowess today from the start and feel Giles should have started. Tired?

Allen - 7 - I have criticized him in the past but he was good today as a DM, mopping things up, passing and moving.

Sheaf - 6 - lots of important tackles today. The shot he blocked I felt he got in the way of one of our defenders to allow the shot to come in the first place. Might be wrong on that.

O Hare - 5 - 60 mins of the game he looked up for it, very aggressive today in his actions and his play and I think he got on the wrong side of the ref after being fouled consistently. Last half hour he didn't influence as much as he usually does.

Biamou - 5 - Similar to O'Hare, he looked up for the game but only for first 15 mins and then seemed to be involved a lot less.

Walker - 4 - Had a torrid time and was the victim of many fouls also. Didn't appear to work as hard today.

Baka - 4 - Mainly anonymous other than nearly forcing one of their defenders into scoring an own goal.

DaCosta - 6 - looks a little slow but decent technically on the ball.

Godden - 5 - didn't have much of an influence and didn't really have all that much time to.

Kastaneer - 10 - MOTM.

Giles - 7 - Looked a lot more like scoring with him on the pitch. Yet also, we never really looked like we'd score.

Robins - 4 - Got this one wrong mate. Giles should have started.

Ref - 4 - Sheffield Wednesday could have ended the game with at least 4 more yellow cards.

Sheffield Wednesday - 4 - we lost to them and in a way we deserved to, yet other than two players, they looked like one of the poorer teams we've played (no disrespect intended).

Wilson 5 Loses a point for his part in the free kick fiasco that lead to the goal. Good one on one save though to probably keep us in the game.

Dabs 6 Average. Doesn’t seem to be getting forward as much-maybe that’s down to instructions?

McCallum 5 A bit better 2nd half but hasn’t really been at the races for a few games. Cross nearly went in past Westwood.

MacFadzean 7 Solid enough again.

Ostigard 7 Another good performance but had to take one for the team ultimately leading to the free kick for the goal. Unlucky at the other end with his chance.

Hyam 7 Calm at the back and carried the ball out of defence well on occasions setting us on our way forward.

Sheaf 6 Better than of late but in reality we are out of options in that role/position. Great block in front of goal when we were looking like conceding.

O’Hare 6 Said previously that it’s not really happening for him at the minute but he doesn’t hide and the work rate is always there. If you are not playing well this is the minimum requirement. Maybe a couple of others should take a leaf out of his book.

Allen 7 Man of the match for me. Was heavily involved in most of our good/positive play. Needs to maintain that kind of performance in the coming weeks with Kelly’s absence.

Walker 5 Had a partner upfront alongside him but ironically has played better on his own upfront! Went off with his calf?

Biamou 5 This is why he is probably above his level. Today reminded us all why.

Subs-

Baka 3 Just bloody woeful!

Giles 6 Tried to get forward at least and make things happen. Overdone it though on one occasion when a simple pass of 5 yards was cut out.

Da-costa 5 One or two nice touches but so frustrating when somebody gives a free kick away which lets the opponents off the hook and they can run down the clock.

Godden 5 Minutes in the bank which is a bonus. One half chance which was fired over.

Kasta n/a

Robins 6 I’m a bit confused when people drone on about negative tactics etc?
Started with 2 upfront from the off-not sure it’s his fault that the 2 upfront didn’t perform and we know they are both limited but in reality we have nobody else. Then used all his substitutes to try and win the game, which ultimately we didn’t.

Comments are too harsh - and personally very surprised by the criticism of O’Hare.

Their goal was down to a mistake by our keeper, followed by Baka not marking his man. Individual mistakes cost us and today’s game could have gone either way.

Reasons to be positive. 4 key players missing today, we’re 18th in the division - and competing in every game. We’re going to be ok - stick with the lads and have confidence that we’ll learn from this one.

Negative comments today from some above are bloody ridiculous. We were undone by a stupid keeper error plus Bannon and Westwood who were both excellent.

Just read that Leo is 21.

Considering his age, he really shows some other players up. His attitude is top notch.

Even when he went down in a heap and it looked like curtains, I still just knew he would be coming back on.

Osti’s ability is a class above and could see him playing alongside Dunk next year at Brighton (or a replacement). A couple of knocks but still wanted to fight on

while I agree with this, (and to be honest the jury's out on Godden for me as well), this is all down to budget.
It's not these players fault they're in a league which seems to be beyond their capabilities .
We simply don't have the budget to sign a quality striker at this level. I've said it many times, if we let Baka go (if we can get rid of him in the first place), we will not be freeing up much money so will be taking another punt on a player.

Now I'm sure most of us would still try it given his performances but most would still be melting down when the bargain basement replacement turned out to be as out of his depths as his predecessor (which in all likelihood he would).

Here are the current top scorers in the Championship, look at the fees, imagine what the wages are:

Ivan Toney 16 goals - fee 5 mil rising to 10 mil with add ons
Adam Armstrong 1 goals - 1.75 mil
Lucas Joao 11 goals - 4.8 mil
Teemu Pukki 10 goals - free transfer
Domink Solanke - 8 goals - 19 million
Kieffer Moore 8 goals - 2 mil
Causley Woodrow 8 goals - 765k
Andre Ayew 7 goals - 20 mil

the list goes on and further down you've got big money signings like Pedro on 5 goals who cost 10 mil. That's what we're up against.
Under the current restraints this is going to take time but a lot of our support can't see that. Barnsley were rock bottom for most of last season but rallied at the end and now appear to be kicking on, that's what we have to try and emulate.

But getting wound up because players who aren't good enough for the Championship aren't performing in the Championship in a season we all knew would be a struggle is illogical.
The mad thing is if you go back to last season and read the match threads of any game we underperformed it's the same shit from some of the same posters over and over again, the only difference is the players they target. Last season one of them (pre Christmas) was Godden who is now the saviour whose return everyone is crying out for,

I've used a combination of Wiki and Transfermarket so accept the figures may not be 100% accurate but it gives a general idea of some of the fees players in this league have gone for.

I remember one point yesterday Allen picked the ball up on our left side of the pitch and ran unchallenged in a forward diagonal to the right side looking for a pass, nobody showed for it so he had to check and play it backwards, this wasn't Allens fault it was the movement in front of him which was zilch!!

Doing these bareback, without having read anxiously the rest of this thread first. Will I regret it? Let's see.

Overall, not up to scratch and despite what Robins has said, I felt overall a real lack of desire to win emanating from that team. So I give Robins 5 because I guess all the same he was sticking with what had 'worked' during the unbeaten run.

Wilson 6 Did everything fine except that cross-field air pass that led to the goal. That's a big 'except', sadly.

Dabo 6 Not as his fittest right now, but his mobility and stamina are still pretty good.
Ostigard 6 Was shouting 'don't foul him ' at the screen as he fouled Bannan. Would have been 7 else.
McFadzean 6.5 Fine: and it's a reassurance to be able to say that. (i.e. didn't attempt any suicidal back passes, nor give away a penalty)
Hyam 7 Best of the three central defenders today. looked strong bringing the ball out of defence
McCallum 6 Not as good as Wednesday night. Still passing it backwards too often.

Sheaf 5.5 Mmmm. Maybe just not my kind of player.
Allen 5.5 Lively enough and marginally improved on recent appearances, but he just isn't making things happen at this level.
O'Hare 5 He fools me into thinking he's brilliant with his ball control and dribbling - but actually, he's just drawing fouls in blind alleys. Should he be farther up the pitch?

Biamou 4 Did a half-pint version of his performance against Rotherham. Some of the strength and feeling with almost none of the effects.
Walker 4 Having felt for a while he looked like he needed a proper run in the side, I now think he looks like he needs a rest.

Bakakoyo 3 Not just ineffectual, but a provocation to the fan. To me, anyway. No visible effort. They say on the bbc he had a couple of shots so I've given him 3, not 2. I miss Kevin Kyle.
Godden 5 On the basis that he didn't get long on the pitch and didn't do anything wrong or right, really.
Giles 7 On the basis that he did more than you'd expect in a short period of time on the pitch.
Kastaneer 4 On the basis that he didn't get long on the pitch and didn't look up to it.
Dacosta 5.5 On the basis that he tried to get stuck in and got noticed (by me, anyway); plus one wonderful bit of skill

We have had successive promotions from Lge 2 and Lge 1. Lge 1 ahead of schedule - so we are carryimg in the squad Lge 2 and Lge 1 players.

You cant just move players on, it will take 3 summer transfer windows to build a squad. January is for panic buys and out of contract no hopers - unless you are mega rich which we arent.

We know the weaknesses in the squad as well as Robins - but that is what he has to work with.

A game we needed to win for massive rewards positionally in League.

Robins set up and subsequent subs were pretty positive - the players let him down.

The goal collectively was poorly defended. Wilsons distribution can be criticised for the free kick before goal. But Marosi was doing it regularly and putting defenders under pressure in early games, when we were shipping far more goals.

I have aways said injuries will define our season. But there are a good half a dozen sides in a similar stuation to us.

Keep the faith and support the lads
