Thought I'd get the ball rolling on this one. What did people think?

I'd say:

Murphy: 6 (didn't have much to do)
Hussey 5 (was a good outlet in first half but looked like he had no confidence going forward!)
Wood: 7 (solid, and won the penalty)
Brown: 7 (ditto, but without the penalty)
Clarke: 6 (again not great going forward)
Daniels: 6 (didn't see all that much of him tbh)
Kilbane: 4/5 (largely anonymous, slow and poor touch. Did put the penalty away nicely though)
Baker: 6 (didn't do much wrong/right)
Sheffers: 6 (some good play at times but was not as sharp as we need him to be)
Cody: 6/7 (looked lively but didn't get a lot of opertunity)
Ball: 7 (worked hard and held the ball up at times - both strikers lacked service)

Subs:
Elliot: 5 (didn't seem to get involved as much as I'd like)
ROD: n/a (not enough playing time to rate)

Feel free to disagree with me!

How many penalty's did we get?!

All sounds very average but a win's a win.

Lol I went back and added the bit about the penalty after i'd written that! Oooops... I'm sure Brown would have won us a penalty too if he'd been fouled in the box

Murphy: 7 (no mistakes)
Hussey 3 ( no confidence going forward, used back pass more than any player I've ever seen)
Wood: 8 (class above everyone else, my motm, and won the penalty)
Brown: 6 (tons better than at Nuneaton and Accrington, pleasantly surprised)
Clarke: 6 (sensing arrogance in his play before he's actually achieved anything noteworthy)
Daniels: 6 (didn't see all that much of him tbh)
Kilbane: 4/5 (largely anonymous, slow and poor touch. Did put the penalty away nicely though)
Baker: 6 (almost his best performance since his initial honeymoon period)
Sheffers: 4 (suffering from birthday party)
Cody: 7 (looked lively early on, forced only save of the match)
Ball: 6 (useful at holding up but will improve)

Murphy: 7 dealt with everything he had to
Hussey: 6 defending was pretty solid but was awful going forward, seemed to run out of ideas very early
Wood: 8 commanding performance and won the pen
Brown: 8 calm and commanding at the back
Clarke: 6 steady, also lacked ideas going forward but looked more dangerous than hussey
Daniels: 6 did well, grew into the game as it went on without really influencing
Kilbane: 3 slow, poor touch, misplaced easy passes....a bit worrying
Baker: 6/7 some nice touches, tried his hardest to unlock their defence....still not a fan but it wasnt a bad performance
Sheffers: 3 complete waste of a shirt
Cody Mac: 7 looks sharp but needs service
Ball: 6 didnt win much early on grew into the game...hopefully will improve

All in all a poor performance but we ground out the win. The most positive thing for me was brown and wood's performance at the back, their partnership could be key this season. On the negative side we defended well but looked clueless going forward, hopefully fleck and barton will be able to pull some strings in the midfield when they start and give some service to the front two. The biggest worry for me though is the lack of pace in our side...the daggers players looked quicker and sharper than us for long periods of the game. Kilbane was awful tonight (apart from his finish from the spot) but hopefully he'll improve when he gets some games under his belt.....but the biggest waste of a shirt was Mcsheffrey, he did nothing and i've seen nothing over the last couple of years to suggest he's ever going to influence games like he used to, if i was thorn i'd get his wages off the books and replace with a winger or two with a bit of pace.

I'd up Kilbane to a 4 as he did get in a few tackles other than that hard to argue with that. We were horribly narrow but hopefully having Fleck and Barton can address some issues - certainly might give Cody more chances.

Murphy 6-assured hands, kicking poor
Clarke 5-defended ok, clueless going forward
Hussey 4-looks to be on his way out, lacking any energy or ideas
Wood 7-solid
Brown 7-composed
Baker 5-tries hard but has no quality
Daniels 6-OK
Kilbane 4-legs totally gone
Sheff- 4 total waste of space, again legs gone
Ball 6- flashes of effort, doesnt look fit
Cody 5- uncomposed and uninterested

Did my match ratings in a past post tbh but marks were pretty similer to most above.

Brown and Wood were my two best players with 7
Hussey & Sheff were two worse......think I gave them 5.5. & 5 though......Kilbane ran them close mind!

As someone has said we were horribly narrow and yet our midfield hardly crafted anything at all of note through the middle.....would like more width in our team, maybe even swap Hussey and Kilbane round or move Kilbane back and put Hussey to the bench? Looking forward to getting Fleck & Barton into the start xi tbh.

ok just seen highlights on SBP,some thoughts

cody had 3 fantastic chances,1 saved,1 header just wide and 1 shot over...its very encouraging he is getting into these positions, its been a long time since i remember a cov striker who works his ass off to get to the ball in the box,if he stays fit he WILL score ....alot

hussey will get many assists this year, his crossing needs conssitency but when he gets ir right it is verydangerous for opposition defences

mcsheffrey and anyone else who plays AMC must link up well with the full/wing backs,it works wonders when done correctly.

reece brown looks solid at back and has a good delivery on him too

baker could cause havoc to teams if played slightly higher up park,in middle of diamond he needs to adapt his game to pass after hes shook off/dribbled past 1 player

finnally listening to the post match interviews i really hope kilbane gets the captains armband,he speaks sense.

Great postings. The ratings helps you keep intouch when you cant get to some away games! The more postings ,the better. Beats "Thorn out" " Sisu out" all day long. Season starts , back to talking football !
Thanks lads (and lasses)
