I mean ours really. Felt like we had a couple or very good chances to score plus several more half chances. I'd have put us at least 2xG personally.

Not sure where you’d get two from tbh.

Palmers two shots for his chance were two of the three best chances of the game at 0.33 and 0.39 the only chances above 0.1 we had were hadjis head against the post (0.36) and Milan’s chance right at the end (0.12)

This is the point, if he gets goal side, he can't score.

Well just from my opinion of football really. Palmer's chances, I'd also "expect" any footballer playing pro level to score at least 7 times out of ten. So in my mind that's 0.7xg

Haji's header, I'd "expect" a goal from that 8 or 9 times out of ten, so 0.8 xG.

Now, I know that's not how xG works but then you have to ask is "Expected Goals" the right title for this stat!

It's a bit unpopular to do that on this forum, but you are exactly right. He made their player (who seemed like he should be playing Sunday league) look like De Bruyne.

If he's going to have to play due to injuries, we need to see better in the remaining games. I would say the same for Simms as well. Alegedly has only 1 goal at the CBS in 12 months. I did think he looked a bit brighter yesterday, but that needs to start counting for something.

Re Sheaf, I put that on Lampard rather than the player. He shouldn't have been on the pitch at that point.
Thought he played well until his lack of match
fitness caught up with him.
And while not at your level, I'm a fairly big Sheaf critic!

He should definitely have been taken off, I agree. Being 1-0 up always has its risks, unfortunately being unable to finish off our chances also cost us in that respect.

He played ok but he has a really annoying knack of giving the ball away in very dangerous situations. Oh and his shooting is abysmal, may as well not bother. I've always quite liked him and was a big defender of him during season 1 when it seemed like everyone was on his case, but my God he has me pulling my hair out at times.

He wasn't out of position, he just didn't get back quick enough.

Full backs get done by that ball over the top all the time, it's unavoidable, the same ball got played over MVE several times last night.

The difference is that MVE is quick enough to get back whereas Dasilva isn't.

His awareness and anticipation of the danger around him was poor though as stated.

If you look back at the highlights he actually checks back before the ball is played, yet he does nothing to close the gap despite him recognising there's an opposition in space and a ball is about to be switched across the defensive line.

But yes his pace is a huge issue, especially given that we play a high line. If anything due to that we're probably more susceptible to balls being put in behind so as a defender if you don't have the pace to get down the line quickly then there's always that risk of getting caught out on the counter. It's a position we need to address in the summer.

I think he was left on so he could achieve match fitness for the run in, may have backfired a bit but I thought Sheaf was looking more like the player he was before the FA Cup Semi Final last season for the majority of last night 's game..

Sheaf is an excellent player. But 2-3 times a game he gives it away via 10 yard passes. It’s infuriating.

I think he had the whole pitch to basically do what he wanted without much pressure from Hull (who were awful), but looked largely impotent again going forwards. I know I am not his biggest fan, but his best position is being just in front of the defence. I guess Grimes has that now, and that's why, but it doesn't work for me.

For the Palmer chances he also took some very lazy and heavy touches which ended up with him losing the ball/getting wiped out, and them almost scoring. He was also complicit in their actual goal by getting totally done twice by their player - so essentially their best two chances he had a big role in.

We've got a lot of injuries now so I expect your analysis about them pushing him to get the 90 minutes is correct. Like I said though, we need to see much better. We've got 4 massive games coming up. Not just aimed at him either, there's a few others that need to provide a bit more output if we are going to cross the line.

They had a great chance where their player shot over the bar.

He's in the right place, Collins has the front post area covered () and if he moved to get goal side then the striker pulls the ball back for the player running into the box (who no fucker has bothered to track) to have a free shot.

Can he/she play on Friday?

I'll also throw one of my Jack Russell's in. You'll never get the fucking ball off them!

It's about awareness he only has to look over his shoulder to see the player is unmarked who scored.

Get closer to him and he blocks the shot.

He did look over his shoulder. Which shows how little anticipation for danger he actually has.

He can pull it back to that player who has a free shot anyway, Dasilva is facing away from him with his momentum going towards the goal line and wouldn't be able to turn quick enough to get the block in. If he's goal side he's facing both the scorer and the player who's running on to it if he does pull it back, so would be much better placed to put the block in.

Agree with you and said the same, he shows him too much of the goal there and dangling a leg out was half-hearted. Rating should be down to a 5 on that basis.

Of course he’s not in the right place. The player gets a shot on goal. If he has to lay it back there are two more phases to go well. Anyway, immaterial now.

If he gets goal side he's leaving an easy pass into the box/6 yard box when he can't be sure who's arriving behind him. At that angle you're not expecting a shot, and you'll know the keeper's on the near post. He's where he should be, not inviting him to cut inside or get an easy cross in

I have to disagree. The defenders first job is always to get goal side and to protect the goal, and whilst he cant be sure who's arriving behind him Kitching has full view and should be giving him information, as there is no opposition player anywhere near the 6 yard box. Also Kitching is on route to fill that position. If he gets goal side and the lad cuts in, he's facing the play so can step across, if the player chops back where Dasilva is with his momentum, Dasilva is out the game anyway. It's a shame as he had a really good game, but whether that's Bidwell or Dasilva that's poor defending.

But he's chasing back, if he runs past him to get between him and goal, he's making it easier to cut inside, his job there is to stop him running inside or getting a ball into the box. At that angle, the keeper's got the post covered so there's minimal danger, he just got a lucky deflection

Two players with the most progressive passes last night:

Rudoni and Ben Sheaf with 9 each. Next closest player was Grimes with 5.

Yeah. It suggests that a player will miss that 2 times out of 3.

I'd have been disappointed missing that at Sunday league level. And I played left back.
