we played well, and 1 mistake and some poor fortune up front
Earlier in the season we would have been happy with that, it was just the importance of the result
we were a bit complacent at 1-0 and that showed by how once they scored we bombarded them with the intensity we should have had earlier
WBA is now a must not lose and ideally 3 points

Just shows how mental it is as a stat

Although I hope Rudoni is given the assist

I'm guessing their xG is pretty much entirely that one Palmer chance which he has to be scoring really.

I mean ours really. Felt like we had a couple or very good chances to score plus several more half chances. I'd have put us at least 2xG personally.

ah right yeh i see what you mean. It does seem like a dodgy stat at times, only worth paying attention to over a prolonged period i think.

Yep those two Palmer shots make up 0.72 of their xG.

Our best xG chance by some distance at 0.36 was Wright's header that hit the post in the second half (that came off his shoulder). He really should have done better there.

Yep, was a poor miss from Wright. He's not been great since the international break in honesty. Needs to get on it again.

MVE seems to have hit that week in week out level of excellence to show he is a class above. Although he needs to take the shot and put his laces through it rather than passing. Think he has edged Wright now as the next big money sale.

See this is where I dont get it. That chance for Haji should be 0.8 minimum in my eyes. Unmarked, free header on the 6 yrd line. You don't get much easier than that in pro football.

JDS played well but the chasm of space he kept on leaving on our left hand side was eventually exploited.

He's come on leaps and bounds recently but defensively his awareness is appalling sometimes.

He tries to offer the same as MVE does offensively but lacks the pace and stamina to help him recover when play breaks down. MVE has it all, great full back.

He wasn't out of position, he just didn't get back quick enough.

Full backs get done by that ball over the top all the time, it's unavoidable, the same ball got played over MVE several times last night.

The difference is that MVE is quick enough to get back whereas Dasilva isn't.

They aren't in order but its interesting that the entire top 8 of the XG table are in the top 8 of the division

Cardiff and Luton however

Both fullbacks played well I thought, happy that Dasilva has looked decent again as Bidwell had gone the other way. Wouldn't say anyone particularly played poorly but when Sheaf is in possession in an attacking sense you don't expect much to happen so I'm not sure where he fits in this team now. If Simms had a reliable first touch he'd be lethal

He made a few nice passes through the lines tbf

It's a bit of a flaw with xG that the second of the Palmer chances counts towards the total, it simply wouldn't have happened if he'd scored the first one so sort of misrepresents things to an extent.

That's his main strength at championship level.... if I needed 5 players to keep the ball for 5 minutes in a rondo for my life... JDS would be in.

All you need is James Trafford, he's allowed to hold it for that long!

the cross to simms which was deflected probably not even on there, but without the deflection (which could have gone anywhere) Simms pushes it home

It is not just mve's speed to recover, he's so good at the block and getting goalside. JDS lacks those body positioning skills as well. Shame because on the ball etc etc

I dont see why collins is not getting flack, the ball was either blocked by JDS or going near post
Collins totally abandoned the near post

Nah. Collins saves that without the deflection.

Has anybody pointed out that Sheaf should have stopped the player who made the cross field pass from which they scored? He was beaten twice in his attempts to stop the player.

Simms didn't miss any sitters. 2 of his shots were after poweful runs. Both on target, and were half chances at best. The 2nd half chance was fizzed across the box and took a deflection. Easier of the 3 but not guilt-edged. Thought Simms led the line well.
The Haji header was the big chance missed, and possibly the shot too which he hit straight at the keeper 1st half.

Or maybe his use of subs is just right hence the run we been on?

Maybe Allen was carrying a knock or Ill? Maybe he just didn't want to drop intensity in closing minutes and didn't want a cold sub in the middle. We just don't know

Sheaf was tired at end but I. Injury time he put MVE through down byline so it's not like he was a shocking liability in closing moments either
Yer, we as fans do have a tendency to assume that the thing we didn't do will always be better than the thing we did do. 'Should have made subs earlier', 'should have shot/passed/etc' (I'm as guilty as anyone!)

Frustrating not to win, but can't ignore KP's golden opportunities and their lad blazing over.

Played shit v Pompey, got 3pts, played great v Hull got 1pt. That's the Championship for you!

Dasilva actually got back in time. But his lack of natural defensive nous meant he left the gap for their player rather than making him go to the bye line.

Maybe he stayed to his right to give Collins better visibility of a shot? A deflection was the only way he'd get beaten from that angle.

Not 100% sure how this stat works but for xGOT we were 2.83. Think that means some of the chances were low xg but with the quality of the shot it would be expected to go in.

Some of Simms and Wright chances were probably only slightly more than a half chance but they've got a good shot away and keeper has pulled off a good save. Think it shows whilst we didn't have clear cut chances we had some really good efforts at goal and there keeper rather than poor finishing kept them in it.

Not allowing any sort of shot in the first place was the play.

It's a bit unpopular to do that on this forum, but you are exactly right. He made their player (who seemed like he should be playing Sunday league) look like De Bruyne.

If he's going to have to play due to injuries, we need to see better in the remaining games. I would say the same for Simms as well. Alegedly has only 1 goal at the CBS in 12 months. I did think he looked a bit brighter yesterday, but that needs to start counting for something.

I've got to say the more I watch it back the more annoyed I'm getting at Dasilva's defending for the goal. He never gets back goal side, then just dangles a foot. If he gets goal side the shot isn't on.

He should have been taken off after about 65 minutes, everyone bar Lampard could see was flagging.

I don't think Dasilva is that out of position, the full back has to base his position on the cb and the size of the gap between
