Burge 7 some vital stops did well but still does not convince me
Willis 6 - Not his best game but solid defensivley
Pennington 7 - Good very assured though Colchester did not really test.
Johnson 7.5 - Good to see him back a dominant force at the back.
Stokes 7.5 - I thought he had a very good game good defensively and one of few players who tried to drive us forward.
JOB 6.5 - Worked hard took goal well
Ward 6.5 - First time I have seen him liked what I saw but think from feedback he has has better games? Great signing though.
Barton 6 - Did ok but him and Fleck too similar can only really have one in start xi
Fleck 6 - Same Comments as Barton
Prosch 5.5 - Tried hard but pretty ineffective should have scored after rounding goalie
Nouble 5 - Same as Prosch minus tried hard....sick of saying he has so much more in locker than what he delivers

Subs:
Maddison 7.5 Great cameo tried to make things happen actuaky felt some excitement when he got the ball have not felt that for a long long time!!!
Phillips - 7 Also di well when came on and was postive
Odelusi 6 - did not have long but did not look great either

That is my one concern from yesterday. Colchester were very, very poor. I do think that made us look like we played better, especially at the back, but for the most part we weren't really tested for most of the game at all.

Burge 8 - good hands and some terrific saves.

Willis 6 - good defensivly but so poor going forwards. not very technical

Pennington 9 - brilliant

Reda 9 - the man beast is back. exceptional as old manager would say

Stokes 7 - worked hard, very good defsnivly and did great for goal. doesnt attack enough possibly though.

Barton 5 - poor game. half hearted effort today and technically not his usual self.

Fleck 6 - just ok

JOB 7 - great goal, worked hard but didnt do too much else for me

Ward 8 - easily our best midfielder. hope we can get him back next year

Nouble 5 - poor game today

Proschwitz 6 - held ball up well, won a few headers and unlucky not to score. at least it wasnt a ridiculous miss, hopefully it wont demoralise him

subs

maddison - 8 - skills pay the bills,so close to goal
phillips - 7 - put himself about and added something to the right that we missed earler
odulsi - 5 - didnt make an impact.

overall comfortable win for me,great to see.

Pretty much as this.
6.5 for stokes even with the set up . Ward was making things move in midfield until half time . Seemed to swap roles with Fleck in second half , don't think it worked for either . Big lad up front didn't win a header all day . Barton needs more time on the ball hence the occasional slide rule pass , under pressure he can be poor . Good marks for Mowbray , subs put us back on top . Defense didn't come out of the dressing room after half time , looked shaky. Wish Maddy was 6inches taller .

Agreed on Willis, he's decent enough in defence usually I guess but everytime he's going forward he just kicks it out for a throw in or a goal kick.

This actually made me laugh as 9/10 it's correct his distribution and technical ability as a footballer at times falls way below the standards of the level we are at, the lads just an athlete and will provide a decent back up next season for Phillips who is an all round better right back IMO.

We all know Barton can deliver a quality pass but he just doesn't do it often enough. Plus once a few passes go astray his confidence goes. He is not very strong on the ball either.

Fleck is slightly more consistent, but not that much better.

Don't know if anyone else has noticed or not, but Barton tends to step on the ball an awful lot. Lost count of how many times it happens.

Like you say though, he is not consistent enough and he also disappears from games, is not strong on the ball, is not quick enough, gets caught in possession too often, occasionally stands around waiting for the ball instead of moving into space and he hardly ever scores.

Not saying for a second that Fleck is the answer, but he offers more than Barton.

Im amazed at some low scores for Stokes - he made the goal got up and down the wing loads - made another gilt edged chance that Nouble lazilly hooofed over.
Yet some score Fleck, JOB and Ward higher all of which did far less for me during the game?? Guess some people have their faves or did not go to game and just copy
and paste marks onto site???

It was between Stokes & Johnson for mom though Maddsion had a great little cameo - think at a push would give Johnson mom.

Yeah, Willis is one of those players who is going backwards rather than improving with game time.

Was it Barton who played the pass for Proswchitz's chance?

Yes it was. It was a lovely lobbed ball over the top. Wish the bugger would do it more often!

Well he is at right back. He's not a right back though and that's the problem. He doesn't have the right attributes for a right back. He is best deployed in the centre of defence.

I don't think he has the attributes for a footballer, but there you go, just my opinion.

No, that's fine Torch. As you say, a matter of opinion. He's certainly not suited to a right back position. He's okay defensively, but his distribution is woeful and his crossing not up to scratch, so when he supports the forwards he pretty much offers nothing.

I like him in the central defensive position. He has the muscle and strength and he can tackle well, is quite good in the air and he is quite quick too.

Would have him at centre back over Martin or Webster any day of the week.

True. I just wouldn't let him over the half way line. Yesterday (and LO) we got into some good attacking positions but when I saw it was Willis with the ball I knew the attack was going to go pear shaped.

OK as a back-up for me, but nothing more. But yeah, better in the middle.

He is useless when he gets over the half way line and worst of all, going forwards is when he usually loses possession and he puts us in danger at the back.

That is a leap of connection that very few posters could seriously make.

Barton is just so ponderous, no intensity to his game whatsoever and plays as if it is a training exercise.

In his defence he rarely had any options when he got on the ball.

Well some do. It's why certain posters were describing him as a reserve non league player before they even saw him and highlighting any mistakes he made.

I like Philips. Be good if he could bulk up a bit perhaps.

Willis should only be considered as an emergency full back in times of need.

To be fair, Phillips is quite stocky.
