Has his head screwed on.

I think agents should be banned! Things like that will end up ruining the lower leagues, players will know they can get thousands a week sat on their arse rotting in the Premier League 3rd teams so expect it when they are playing matches.

Actually Nick some players are aware of this and are now having family members represent them.
This is now possible since 'agents' changed to 'intermediaries' a couple of years ago
That way there is no hidden agenda or ramping of demands
Reading autobiographies of players from the recent past they often had their Dad as their rep. Some lads are going back to that now

Thing is though I think the game has to have a level playing field and set rules on things like this.

Even some sort of wage caps would be good based on different things (no league appearances and they cant be paid over £x)

Academy players have agents. Agents actively seek out young starlets, we have just had one move to Stoke for £250k it's the football world we live in

One that springs to mind was the Conor Thomas fiasco where he was banded about for Liverpool. Now anyone who saw him play knew he (more probably his agent) was a million miles away from that sort of platform and wasn't even an average L1 player. Had probably now found his level, along with a lot of our team last season which is L2. Same with Bigi and his agent who as we can all see seem to have ideas above their station.
Weather you liked Mowbray or not I remember one good bit of advise that he always used to use when it came to players. "Don't go looking for the money-do the business on the grass and the money will eventually find you". Sound advise indeed!

Conor Thomas was headhunted by Liverpool Academy director Frank McParland at the time.

No. Adge said 'probably' a few times with a few speculative guesses. I'm going with that.

Both Thomas and Big showed technical promise at a young age, I can see why they were scouted TBF.

McAnthony is saying anything new or revolutionary in his piece.
He is applying common sense which is commendable at their level and even more so in league 2.
Fans believe that players get great contracts but the reality is that clubs by and large have had to cut their cloth and they can't give out big money. Yes some do speculate and for some it pays off but for the others paying over the odds is not an option.
All you can ask of players is that they put in the effort and if it doesn't happen they at least go out on their shield. Something that you couldn't accuse many of our players of doing in 16/17.
I hope that the likes of Doyle and Beavon can drive that mentality in to some of the players who let their heads drop too easily.

Or you might want to have another career?

Harry Redknapp wants Benoit Assou-Ekotto... but former Spurs ace would rather become a PORN star

Players wouldn't need agents or intermediaries if they clued up a bit on contracts and transfers from a technical standpoint. Maybe the PFA could put on free courses for players, especially at lower league level, to help them navigate these on their own? Then perhaps more would have their heads screwed on about these matters.

The PFA act as agents and have done for years. It's the players who want to have their own agents to maximize their opportunities outside the game as well as their club contracts.

That's my favoured option, all players repped by the PFA and nobody else.

All PFA agents salaried rather than on a %. Each club pays an annual fee, dependent on division to cover the costs of employing them.

Then you'd have everyone working in the players best interests.

It's very hard to predict who will 'make it'.

The only one I've only ever been sure of since following the Academy a bit closer (2012) was Maddison.

Countless other players (Lobjoit, Bigi, Cameron, C.Thomas in my time) were labelled as the next big thing. They've had careers but not been the players people thought they'd be.

This current crop I'm sure two other players will 'make it'. One got offered a pro and the other is an U16.

I don't know the full ins and outs of contract side of the game however does a league one or two footballer need a agent?
Top flight players yes I understand to deal with sponsorship deals and image rights... etc. But what's a league one or two need one for?
I'm sure they could sort there own deals over a close season
