Two hotels to go on Car Park possibly.

Coventry City Council are to discuss whether to keep Car Park C opposite the Ricoh Arena as a car park or use some of the land to build a budget hotel and a luxury hotel.

Two hotel operators have already approached Arena Coventry Limited about the scheme which has been in the pipeline for a couple of years.

Outline planning permission has already been given for the scheme but it will need full approval from a full City council before the scheme reported to be costing £25m can go ahead.

A number of people in the City are backing the scheme for the building of the hotels and have already said there are not enough beds in the City, whilst ACL boss Daniel Gidney told the CT: "We've lost half a million pounds worth of conferences last year because there was not enough accommodation at the Ricoh."

Should the scheme go ahead, matchday parking will be reduced, when asked what supporters who park there should do, when the plans were first aired a couple of years ago, the response from a then ACL employee was to use the 101 bus.

I think this is a mad idea! I've seen how bad the parking is when we have a "busy" match. It's awful, and losing part, or all of the car park is just untinkable. How can they tell people to get the bus when they don't put that many on?

Besides, there is already a hotel at the Ricoh, why do we need TWO more?

Do you think this is a good or bad idea?

this is what happens when you do not own your ground!! ACl are just interested in money and know they can make more from the hotels/conferencing than if we have the "odd" big game and parking is needed. the supporters will be the last to be heard...if at all!

And where will people park for these hotels ??? perhaps they can leap from passing trains roughly where the train station should be.

If they can sell it they will, there's more money in hotels than car parks that are only used 1 day a week.

To be honest, if you think about it the profit you will make from the carpark would be greater than from the hotels. With the carpark already being in place you would need to spend no money. Whereas if they were to build a hotel the turnover would be greater but there would be a loss.

They have just built those houses behind the Car Park, I imagine it was quite a nice view of the ground but now you will just have people in hotel rooms looking at you.
