Another year another promise it’ll be great next season with a new pitch going in and more investment.

Coventry City boss says plans in place for CBS Arena pitch improvements

The CBS Arena pitch is due to be relaid this summer as the Sky Blues and Wasps work together to try to provide a more durable playing surface
www.coventrytelegraph.net

So do we believe it this time?

Wasn't there a short term fix for last summer as we came back to the ground at late notice?
Not sure if I misheard that though.

Also isn't there a really short summer break between seasons this year? Is that even enough time to relay a pitch properly?

I'm going for it will be improved next year (but not perfect)

They need to go a summer without any events in the bowl to lay it properly but we will never get that.

It'll start great and go to shit again.

I don't get why nobody is going back to the specialists they keep bringing in who promise it's going to be amazing but turns out shit?

This is a very good point. I’d love to believe it, but fact is we keep hearing how they’ve got new experts in without ever explaining why the previous experts weren’t up to the job.

The Ricoh Arena - Meeting a dual purpose challenge

The Ricoh Arena stands proud above the city of Coventry, between its historic centre and the M6 motorway and surrounded by bustling retail and industrial parks. Its path to being a modern leisure palace which includes a casino, conference centre and hotel has not been without undulations...

Woven technology a hit for GreenFields

It has been an exciting year for GreenFields and its two premium woven products – their hybrid turf system XtraGrass and 3G turf MX TriMension.

Ricoh Arena: New turf in the Wasps’ Nest - White Horse Contractors

All these type of press releases where they say how amazing it is don't add up with what is seen at the ground. If somebody is selling it as "amazing, will be great for dual use" then surely get back to them and say "why's it shit?"

How many times has it been relaid?

Remarkable to hear Swansea have just done it once since they opened their stadium, especially when you consider the rainfall in Wales.

I think there is only just the pitch lights at the Ricoh, they weren't there for years.

"GreenFields has agreed a ten year contract with the Ricoh Arena, but Ben comments that there is no reason why the XtraGrass carpet should not last more than ten years if well cared for"

Whether you take this at face value or not I think it highlights part of the issue that is the pitch just clearly isn't well cared for. Like how much investment actually goes into to ensuring the pitch is maintained properly? As I'd wager that's where serious drawbacks have been made in recent years.

I remember back in the day where guys used to be on at half time and at the end of the game repairing divots. Obviously that's only the absolute bare minimum of pitch care but I don't even see this being done anymore.

All well and good relaying a new pitch but if you don't maintain it properly it'll deteriorate fast.

Would be interesting to learn roughly how much goes into maintaining a pitch over a season and to benchmark ours/Wasps against that of other clubs.

Oh hell, lets just go back to Astroturf TM. Worked for the mostpart in the 80s and still does in American Football And we'll save on maintenance costs and water bills while still allowing for events on the pitch (and they can be during the season and midweek without problems). Win, win, win

Is everybody forgetting that artificial pitches are outlawed in the EFL and, presumably, the Premier league ? Harrogate (or was it Barrow ?) had to relay their pitch to grass on promotion from the National league. May have been the same for Sutton United this season.

Well there you go. The cheap option.

For context Swansea have five groundsmen and germination sheets seem to be a couple of hundred quid.

The pitch has always been shocking, even before wasps turned up.

Makes me think there may be an underlying issue which hasn’t been investigated

Not being familiar with much of The Killers work I watched their Glastonbury set about 3 years ago. It was the most boring hour of music I've ever suffered.

Pitch was awful last night. Watching the players try to play the ball around at pace was tough.

I hope they train on concrete at Ryton because it's comparable.

On the pitch comment 100% they will follow through on the pitch - Our management team at Cov city and Dave Body were all singing the praises of the Swansea pitch and also made comments of the Bristol city pitch previous both who share with a rugby team - Why would Cov city & wasps not follow through on there thoughts of replicating a Swansea pitch at the CBS - They have tried before and spent may thousands of pounds only to be left with the same issues - This time they believe they have a contractor that can fulfill the requirement - Basically in my opinion its no brainier that the monies will be made available to keep what Mark Robins thinks is the most important factor in his teams progression of playing his style of football - as for other investment haven't a clue

I think a steady supply of bullshit is the last of our worries.
