Police have launched a murder investigation after a large section of a usually bustling street in the heart of the city centre was cordoned off for several hours. The force was called to Upper Well Street just before 2.40am today, Thursday May 6, and found a man seriously injured. His life could not be saved despite the efforts of the emergency services. Another man was found with hand injuries, who has been treated at hospital and a 23-year-old man was arrested on suspicion of murder and attempted murder. A police van and a car have been used to block entry to the street from Corporation Street while a number of officers have been seen guarding the area. Forensic officers in white hazmat suits arrived at around 9.30am, but are understood to have now left the scene. A number of bus services are following diversions to avoid the area and to allow police to continue their work. Below is a selection of images taken at the scene.
