A large section of a usually a bustling street in the heart of the city centre has been cordoned off by police for several hours. Unconfirmed reports on social media has suggested a body has been found at the scene in Upper Well Street, but West Midlands Police is yet to confirm the nature of its operations. The force issued a short statement shortly after 9am in which it confirmed it was 'dealing with an incident'. Residents and passersby have told us they are in the dark as to what has happened and called for better lines of communication from police. A police van and a car have been used to block entry to the street from Corporation Street while a number of officers have been seen guarding the area. Forensic officers in white hazmat suits arrived at around 9.30am, but are understood to have now left the scene. A number of bus services are following diversions to avoid the area and to allow police to continue their work. Below is a selection of images taken at the scene.
