Bird in tree in my back garden (Goldfinch?):

After some research I think this bird is a Verdin. I did not find it in my bird book. I found it when I googled 'Arizona birds'.
I think my photo is of a female, the males are more brightly coloured (as with most birds).
Verdin

Posting a few more birds. I have quite a few more to come as it's one of my main subjects, being as they come into my back garden trees, or to the lake just down the street.
I believe these are both Green Herons, though they look different, so I could be wrong.

Cormorants - notice the 'hooks' at the end of their beaks. Evolution is an incredible thing.

Blue Heron. This is one of the most beautiful birds I've ever seen. I got within about 10 feet of it and it stood its ground as it had found a good fishing spot. From its beak, you can see that herons stab their prey rather than hooking it.

Bugger! No wonder I couldn't find it on the British birds site! Btw, Mine is definitely a goldfinch.

It sure is a pretty bird. I did not know they had red faces. The American Goldfinch does not have any red on it. Here's a picture of one, not up to my normal standards, but you can see it is one. They fly onto my hose pipe to drink and then are gone in a flash.

A mate of mine snapped this Peregrine Falcon last Friday at Whale Chine Beach on the South side of the Island. I reckon it's a brilliantly captured shot! Wish it was one of mine!

Wish I could get a picture of any kind of animal that good! I gave up trying in the end. No matter how quiet, how slowly I moved, the minute I pointed the bloody lens at them, they were off! I can only think the animals out here in the Forest of Dean are of the camera shy variety......

I've yet to capture a red squirrel. There's hundreds on the Isle of Wight. Been here 7½ years, seen just 3 in all that time and didn't have my camera with me. It's just a matter of time! I see all sorts of photos on the local photography thread from all over the island, foxes, squirrels, hawks etc, but up to now I've only snapped birds , flowers, sunsets and butterflies!

I've started hosting my pics on Eyeem, which is a community for hosting, sharing, commenting and selling images, Feel free to pop along and have a look here
EyeEm

I've also just started a Facebook page so if you could like, follow and share this then I'd appreciate it. Currently it has very little content, but I will be populating it in the next few days if I get a few followers and it's worthwhile.

I've yet to try light trails. There's not a lot of traffic around here at night to make it worth while. I might have a think about star trail shots though. I've seen a few on my local photography page and they're really good. It's just getting the right camera settings.

The pic above is only one car Baz. I put it on 30 second exposure with 2 second delay from pressing the button, just so the camera was not moving during exposure. One thing I'd say is if you're road side snap cars heading away from the camera. Anything coming toward an cause issues with the light shining onto the lense.

Cheers for that Rich. I'm really looking forward to trying some light trail shots but it's a bit nippy at night at the moment, plus, I want my knee op out of the way, so I may wait until around March. Still dark enough but maybe not so bloomin' cold! Do you use a remote? I have one, also an intervalometer which I use with a tripod, so hoping I can get some good shots.

No remote and I've only got a 3inch tripod at the moment. I may well get a hama over the next week or so.

I never buy the County Depress, Wingy. It's a once-a-week rag that just covers old news and fills the rest of the pages with adverts. However, I do look at their webpage, so I will take a peek later.

I took this one (among a few others) while I was waiting for the missus at our local hospital. It came in and landed on the Helipad.
