Assuming its not under contract with Tesco anymore then if you take it into one of their phone shops or give them a ring they should be able to unlock it.

Thanks. Thought thats what we'd have to do. They should just sell every phone unlocked, it's bonkers.

Been to the Tesco Mobile shop and not a quick fix, could take 2-3 weeks, so the wife has no phone

Gonna have to shell out on a new smart phone for her. Any recommendations for budget smart phone, ideally I don't want to spend much more than £100-120, £150 max, as I'm hoping someone honest has found her phone and is going to hand it in at the police station. Not holding my breath.

She likes browsing the internet, facebooking, that kind of thing, but needs 4g as she's paying for it on her contract. Not insured and never lost a phone in her life.

The iPhones are dreadful to unlock, some shops don't even bother they're that tricky.

I had a budget phone from vodafone called the smart ultra 6. I think they're on 7 or 8 now, but it was in your budget and it was way way way better than a iPhone 4 .
It was on par with my htc m7 so I can imagine it being even better now.
It's pretty fucking large tho so no sitting down and putting it in her pocket

Thank you. Are they locked for vodaphone? If so are they easy to unlock?

Probably easy unlock as it's android.
Looking at the specs the 6 looks better than the 7 if you can get hold of one unlocked off eBay you're on to a winner. surely be less than a oner
