I couldn't believe what i was hearing on saturday as Cov and Warwick began to constantly ask the question 'is automatic promotion now out of our reach?' I was even more baffled by the deluded callers who have clearly decided they're going to purchase their first tickets of the season this week who were in agreement with the sentiment and were agreeing. For goodness sake we are 4 points of autos in January and have arguably just played the 2 other strongest teams in the league. I'm as disappointed as anyone in the 1 point from 2 home games but our away result against burton, our hammering of gillingham and beating of Wigan are proof enough that we are more than capable of mixing it with the strongest sides in the leagye. I know football fans are a fickle bunch but the utter crap i was hearing from presenters and fans alike was embarrassing

Thank God they didn't ask if it was out of our hands.

Not joking. Twitter is far worse than the people you get on here or the phone in. There's some decent users of course but a lot of complete idiots. The way people were carrying on you'd think we'd just been relegated, not lost at home for the first time this season to the team top of the league.

Well, I'm actually speechless.

These morons are not fans, at all. Calling for TM to be sacked is just...surreal.

Always astounds me how short some peoples memories are. At the start of the season once TM had signed we 'hoped' for some improvement, progress, going in the right direction. Instead TM has taken us from relegation fodder to genuine promotion hopefuls - even after the last 2 games. Fans need perspective big time.

Whilst any fan calling for Mogga's sack is totally and utterly ridiculous, in my humble opinion, I do think that with the games in hand that those above us possess, plus our inability to be able to break through teams as once we did (yes I do recall the Crewe debacle of 5 v 0) but if you look at recent games, we are struggling to break teams down and yet, those above us ... allow us to let off steam, press, have possession and then counter attack us and take the points or adequately nullify our threat. Whilst auto is not impossible, it's out of our hands in that if Walsall and Burton maintain current standards, with no opportunity to play them both again ... they will take the two top spots ... and we will, absolutely certain of this, have no less than a play off spot this year ... but top 2, we've made very hard for us indeed now ...

But that assumption is all hanging on walsall and burton not faltering and a few weeks ago they would have had the same view of us, there are a hell of a lot of games left all it takes is 2 losses for either of those teams above us and we are potentially leapfrogging them

Make that 4 and 3 losses to get level if they win their games in hand.
Funny how everyone thinks they will lose them.
They are not top 2 on luck.

So no-one else is allowed an opinion but you? What makes you think they formed their opinion based on just two games? We have won 2 in the last 10 which is relegation form, not promotion form. Maybe things will turn around ... but maybe they wont.

I make it 3 wins in the last 10, Gillingham, Port Vale, and Crewe. Lost 2 drawn 5.
Would equate to 64 points across a whole season, so not relegation form but not play off form either

I still think they should only let people on after the game if they have been to the game... I'd much rather here the feedback from somebody who was there and saw it as opposed to somebody who caught 5 minutes of it on the radio.

My only surprise there is that nobody on here has suggested it (as far as I have seen) yet

Don't live locally and would be unlikely to phone in either but I agree with what they were apparently saying.

It's not 4 points of autos though is it? Burton have 22 points from the last 24 so don't really look like dropping points and Walsall equally are looking good at the moment.

Coupled with the fact we've had a poorer December and January so far than we would've liked, I would say the odds on us getting to the autos are now pretty stacked.

I concede that it's not impossible but in my opinion, really not likely after the last two games. I'm happy in the thoughts of a trip to Wembley now in the play offs!

what a petulant response, how about the fact we have only lost 2 in our last 18 games? I'm merely stating that while our form isn't what it was there are 19 games to go and still plenty of time to make up 4 points, to say it is out of the question is extreme to say the least

In fact our 'relegation form' over the last 10 games, was actually 1.4 points per game average, and if repeated over the rest of the season would net us a total of 75 points.

But it's potentially 7 points for 2nd and 12 points for 1st.

Even to finish 2nd requires us to win 3 more games than Walsall from 19. Looking at how the season has panned out so far, that looks unlikely (although I agree, not impossible).

By the end of this transfer window we may have a better idea of who has got stronger and who has got weaker within the squads. We need to improve with 3 more players add pace, power and quality if we do this and others can't, then the better squads will rise to the top. I dont see Burton or Walsall keeping all and not having suspensions and injuries between now and the end of the season. I do however see us, Wigan having stronger squads to deal with week in week out L1 football over a season.

Big couple of weeks coming up for us we need to get a few wins under our belts and get back on track we will be ok.

I only listened to the first few callers and I was actually surprised that they were quite positive about the performance and the outlook for the season.
My thought is that Walsall will lose at least one , if not two of their best players before the end of the transfer window, which will impact on them greatly!

I agree and think Wigan are as big a threat to our final position as Walsall or Burton. Who wants to do the research and see how often (If ever) The top 2 teams at Christmas have gone on to automatic promotion?

They did last season. Season before Wolves went up (2nd at xmas), Leyton Orient didn't (1st at xmas). 2012-13 neither of the top 2 went up. 11/12 the top 2 at xmas were the top 2 at the end of the season. Season before that Brighton stayed top and Sheff Wed dropped out the top 6.

So no real pattern, but seems usually at least one of the top 2 at xmas goes up automatically.
