Does he have more to his fans at right back than Willis? Worth a start?

I posted in the Orient match thread after the game that Willis is not a right back and doesn't look great there - and that Phillips offered more going forwards in his 20 minutes in that game that Willis did, enough to warrant a start.

Willis was great defensively today. Phillips struggled a bit with Sako, hence his booking (one of the most blatant I've seen).

For games where we want to take the game to the opposition Phillips looks the best option, but today I think Willis starting was the right call.

Willis played well today. Phillips took his goal well. Took a booking for the team too, after been done for strength and pace. Phillips needs bringing on a bit yet, coming off the bench is right at the moment.

Looks a great product for the future, Pressley is just "blooding" him currently which looks like the right thing to do.

I reckon he could be worth starting on Tuesday, I'm delighted with how our young players are coming on

When Baker was out, Daniels came in and done superbly. Now Christie is out Willis and Phillips are doing the exact same, its great to see

Willis was up against probably the best player in the league and coped admirably, yes Phillips scored, and looks decent but lets think about it a bit, a 20 minute cameo when chasing the game is completly different to going up aginst him for the whole 90.

He took one for the team with his booking, but Sako should have gone for kicking out at him in retaliation. Just shows that in football even with descent, unless you down in a bundle and make it obvious there has been a kick, rather than be honest and stay on your feet, it will go unnoticed

As for his performance, I think in Phillips' 3 short cameo appearances make him worth of a starting position. He offers us more defensively than Willis (who is a good defender, just not a good RB IMO) and definitely a better attacking option

To be fair, we have 3 cracking right backs at the club in Christie, Willis and Phillips...Great stuff

Agree so why doesn't Presley play Clarke at right back and Willis at Centre Half until Cyrus is back.

I can only assume he doesn't rate Clarke at RB, or doesn't want to unsettle the back two. That said, I think changing the Webster / Clarke partnership might be what we need. OK, we only conceded one today but it does worry me that we aren't able to keep clean sheets, and look vulnerable over periods of games

I think it's more than Clarke has been excellent at CB so far and why change two positions instead of one?

Willis will mature into a CB, nothing wrong with a stint at fullback, lots of good center halves have started like that (you might count Clarke among them soon). Phillips looks a more natural option to back up Christie, but again Willis is probably slightly further along his development.

Great to see the kids step up, we still need a bit more experience overall, but no-one who has had to come in has disappointed.

I don't think the thread was criticizing Willis, but Willis will be a better centre back and Phillips is more natural at right back.

Agreed. When experience is at a premium though, Willis has the edge for me. But next time Christie is out I'd expect Phillips to be first choice replacement.

That would require making 2 changes to the back 4 instead of one, plus Clarke and Webster are forming a decent understanding. Clarke has been one of the star performers this season at centre back

Willis was fantastic yesterday but I still believe he is a CB, Aaron has been fantastic in all his cameos off the bench, great goal yesterday, great last ditch challenge in stoppage time and as generally a good defending brain.
