Sunderland belong in the Premier League - Peter Reid

Ex-Sunderland and Coventry City boss Peter Reid is concerned about the Black Cats' form as the two sides meet in the Championship play-off semi-final.
www.bbc.co.uk

I know he was an absolute fraud and a charlatan of a manager for us, but is he that thick he doesn’t understand how the League system works as it has done for the last 100 or so years

If they belong in the Premier League, they’ll find themselves there after the next three games

Hope we fucking put them to the slaughter

Just the same old boring shite, they’ve got a lot of fans they are therefore above this level

Considering they have done fuck all since the 70s, they are unbelievably arrogant

Well, yeah, see also the Sunderland fan that's dribbled all over the board in the last couple of days.

Still not worth getting angry about, though.

Me too - nice bloke. It’s a standard thing lots of people say about clubs with big crowds/grounds. No biggy.

You've probably got to be 40+ now to remember the circumstances behind the club appointing him as manager.

He an absolute chancer! The club were playing fabulous flowing football at the time and then - out of nowhere - the decision was made to sack Eric Black.

I remember Aron Gunnarsson just trudging back to the half way line after he'd made us an equaliser in Reid's first game.

Such sadness that the club were duped by this idiot all those years ago.

One of the stranger managerial decisions. I dunno if you can blame Reid for taking the job but he was rubbish and the thing is, we all knew he was going to be.

Eric Black’s football was really giving me belief that we might get back to the prem. He doesn’t seem to have managed anywhere else.
Bizarre.

Gunnarsson joined 4 years after Reid was sacked. Barni Gudjonsson maybe?

It was very much like Birmingham sacking Eustace to bring in Rooney

I attended one of Reid's training sessions, it was a hard watch, embarrassing standard. Probably didn't help having Adrian Heath assisting

He only took the job on the understanding that McGinnity didn’t sell Davenport

He then sold him without even telling him

I miss those days.

Those seasons slowly falling away in the championship were grim…death by a thousand paper cuts.
And that was before it got really bad.

Gunnarson wasn't here in Reid's first game. We were still at HR under Reid.

Yes, sold him to Spurs and they immediately loaned him to West Ham. First game for West Ham was against us if I recall

McGinnity, arguably the worst guy we had in charge, only followed closely by Robinson. t McGinnity threatening to sue one of our biggest fans and one of the creators of GMK, Neville Haddesley.
Reid, a royally shit manager for us.
Sunderland get massive gates and qualifies them as a big club.
We are restricted by the size of our ground. If we continue to progress upwards. we have massive potential.

Nev wrote some comments on GMK criticising McGinnity who said he was going to sue. Such a great way to treat the fans. Like if people on here said, for example, King is dodgy and it ending up in court. Sure someone will remember the exact details of what was printed.
My further gripe was Adam Dent attacking Nev when he went on CWR to defend himself. Dent worked indirectly for the club, I gather, and was supposed to be an independent presenter.
Incidentally, I read a biography of Robinson that said he tipped off McGinnitty about the policy of all-seater stadiums and McGinnity made a mint. Is it true?

McGinnity was director of a company who made stadium seating. They re-fitted the whole of Highfield Road in the 90’s, so made a nice earner from us.

No idea how he ended up on our board. Was a West Brom fan I think.

That was so funny by today’s standards. Someone on GMK called McGinnity a “rogue” I believe. Can you imagine Doug complaining today about stuff said online? He’s have a few more choice words to choose from.
