Perseid meteor storm tonight, my 8 year old daughter wants me to wake her up just before 11pm (will have to pause MOTD), anyone else planning on watching?
Yeah it's that time of year again.
Remember seeing scores as a teenager growing up in the sticks.
Far too much light pollution around Stoke though unfortunately.
Done a bit of a Google and it's as we pass through the tail of a Comet called Swift -Tuttle.
There are a few webcasts around
Slooh.com, Space.com I think and the Scope project (I think).
Bit of confusion around start times due to geographical location so best to check but some start around 9pm and midnight.
Three quarter full moon tonight so roughly half the norm of 100ph predicted visible but they will be the brightest.
Not sure how effective from a computer screen they'd be.

We get a lot of shots of the Milky Way on the Facebook Island photographic group I'm in. Without so much light pollution, it is an easy thing to capture with the right gear. For those into all the info....this was taken at ISO 3200, 20 secs,14mm, f2.8. (Caught a couple of jet trails as well)

Thanks NW. He really is a remarkable photographer. He puts up quite a fair few of his pics on our local pages, as do many other folk. I feel quite humble with my efforts, sometimes!
