Pele: Brazil football legend dies aged 82

Brazil legend Pele, who is regarded by many as football's greatest player, dies at the age of 82.
www.bbc.co.uk

While todays football is far more technical and Messi could be deemed the best in the world, at his peak, Pele was truly the GOAT.

RIP Edson Arantes, your status and legacy will never be beaten.

Great player and the best because he wasn’t a raging thundercunt like the others mentioned in the same breath. Did it in far tougher circumstances as well.

Simply the best…no question. Pitches not as good, forward players not protected, training /diet regimes v amateur. Great player, gentleman and for me GOAT.

Sorry to be a naysayer (and it might be my age, 55), but I was genuinely gutted when Maradona died.

With Pele, I'm more in the 'another great player gone, like George Cohen or whoever' camp.

No doubt Pele was a fantastic footballer, but he didn't touch me in the same way that the little Argentinian cheat did.

And there alone is why he was the Goat.
Never cheated never went down like he had been shot when someone blew on him, just a great player of the wonderful Game.
RIP Goat

But I'd argue, and obviously it's all subjective, that even without him, Brazil win those 3 World cups.
Without Maradonna there's no way Argentina win in 86.
I still love watching footage of Pele in that iconic yellow shirt.

True the real cheat won 86 and with VAR Maradonna wins no world cup

And with goal line technology, '66 might have been different.

RoI might have gone on to win the WC in 2010 if it wasn't for Thierry the cheat.

England might have won the WC if Lampard's goal had stood against Germany.

So what? The technology wasn't around.

I honestly can't think of an unworthy WC winning team in my 40 odd years of watching football.

Greece in the Euro's spring to mind, but none in a world cup.

If I remember correct Pele gave his shirt to our Alan Dugdale just an up and coming youngster then for his performance that day.

Just saying that Maradonna won by cheating.

He was the GOAT, but this is just ridiculous

Fifa’s Infantino will ask every country to name stadium in honour of Pelé

Fifa will ask every country in the world to name a stadium in honour of Pelé, its president, Gianni Infantino, has said

I see the massive footballing nation of Cape Verde have named their national stadium after Pele, so the Cape Verde World Cup won’t be far away.

When the curtain finally comes down on Infantinos tenure I guarantee this won't even make the top 5 of his stupidest ideas.
