I recall back in Jimmy Hills era when Northampton had a following one game at Highfield Road around 12,000.I remember them packing one end and as I was a kid I felt they must have been a big club ! Bet they'll bring a thousand tomorrow at least ?

They have sold about 1650 and apparently no POTG for them

That's a good turn out then and they'll be on a high after knocking WBA out the League Cup.

Seeing all their fans that game was the most I'd seen at Highfield Road at that time.We were third division and so were they, but we got promotion and went from strength to strength, while I think they stayed where they were ?

Be interesting as just read on Northamptons the hotel end forum ( I'm board at work) that they've only been given 2000 tickets and its ticket only. They'd sold 1800 by today.

Hmmm, can't help but think City missed a trick here, Cobblers fans should have been able to pay on the gate too, more numbers, revenue, better atmosphere.

Why only give an away side 2,000 tickets with 20.000 empty seats ?. Surely they should have as many as they can sell ?

Probably police advice as they will be busy sorting out the protest flags

Bringbackrattles; The last Northampton league game, was in 1967, towards the end of the season, Northampton had just been relegated from the top div, and were fighting relegation to the third. 38,000 packed in HR on a Tuesday night towards the end of the season. Promotion fever had started to grip the City, Northampton put up stiff resistance with a very large following, but we won 2-0 with late goals. I always remember the game as Gibbo, I think, hit both posts with a shot and the ball went straight to there goalie. There is a newsreel clip of this game on the internet, I think from the ITV local news.
Previous time we met them at home was in the third, they were promoted and we just missed out, that had a small crowd of 21,000. I think the game you remember was the 1967 game.
Edit: we also met them in our first season at Div 2, 64/65, Northampton were eventually promoted to top div and we ended up midtable

It doesn't mean they couldn't have had more does it? Be like with us, take an initial batch and if they sell out get more.

Thanks for that. You may be right about the game, I recall there were so many of them that many were escorted from one end to the other,as it was packed and they must have been worried of a crush.
