Aah Telfer, my first boo boy - had a spell over Strachan, could do with him now mind. I could see him doing alright at RWB.

he was a trier with a good engine , not the best, but a reliable player .could do with a few with his work ethic now .

I have that issue with a lot of our ex players, same with Doyle - he ran round a lot, just didn't offer anything other than he tried.

I preferred Hughes. At times the game looked like it was bypassing him, but he was a far superior player to Doyle.

Only one "f in Telfer"
Never watched football once away from ground.
Preferred to play golf

Could only pass about 1 yard ( not always to our player )

I know Strachan kept picking him but i would never have guessed he played so many games.
46 more games than Dublin, same as Oggy etc...

I'm not surprised personally. Individually was never our best player by a long shot but his work rate used to make other teams work and pull them about the pitch making them lose their shape creating room for our better players to play their best football.

He couldn't regularly string a pass together, do fancy footwork etc. but he was effective and his contribution underrated.

Rubbish ^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^ ,he was a reliable workhorse every managers dream , somebody that did a job , not a poser . A solid player .

Not the greatest player but made a contribution to the team. Two nil up in that final away game to Villa, Telfor went off injured, we fell apart and we lose 3 - 2.

What's wrong with Oggy all of a sudden? Would just pip Bill Glazier to the goalkeepers spot in my all time City 11. Came out on top in that poll that someone ran on here last year.

Not all of a sudden for me disliked him for ages as soon as the back pass rule came in his time was done

Shows how you see things differently. Initially he did struggle but obviously put in hours of practice on the training ground and was able to kick well with both feet. Shows his dedication to adapt and improve.

I think you are being a bit harsh on him saying rubbish he was a bit better than that, he did a bad job though we had better players that Strachan left out.

Absolutely spot on. He was playing like a man possessed in the first half, winning all the 50/50's and playing with the defiance needed in the that scenario. After he went off we were devoid of aggression and subsequently secombed.

It does we will have to disagree on it he couldn't kick for toffee and always took ages over everything and looking for the valve on the ball.

Teller worked hard and had a great engine; but he needed it.

His positional play and tactical awareness was rubbish. Also as a wide midfield player he could only hit two things with a cross, the first defender or the corner flag.

He admitted he didn't really want to be a professional footballer and preferred golf and it showed.

He career was enhanced by Strachan treating him like he was his illegitimate son. But in his defence he always was easy to manage and worked hard and we have had far worse over the years.

IIRC Blackburn offered us twice what we paid for him within a few weeks of him signing but we declined. Was always a boo-boy's favourite, but he worked damn hard for the team. I know it's not all about effort, but many successful players become so just because they have the deive to overcome a lack of talent. Looking back, I have to say fair play to the guy. Made the most of what he had.

Makes you laugh, doesn't it? Telfer was an okay player at PL level, yet most fucking lunatics absolutely worshipped Morrell, Konjic, Reda fucking Johnson and Charles-Cook.

This football club doesn't deserve good players.

I said Premier League, I only mentioned him in relation to Telfer as I could not remember Telfer playing so many games. Those 2 are both joint top games played in the PL for us but Telfer was involved in more wins.

Telfer was a very underrated player, a lot of people only seem to see the flashy bits and discount the workhorses that enable the more entertaining aspects of the game after all he made 600ish appearances most of which were in the premier league that doesn't happen if you are no good.

I might have got this him mixed up with someone else but didn't he cancel a contract with one club late in his career when they got into financial difficulties? Says something about his character if I have remembered correctly.

Shortest 'pass' I ever saw him make was a two yarder to my mate after the Monday evening game up Hillsborough late 1995. We lost 4-3 (Dion hat-trick) we hung around the car park afterwards to have a 'chat' with BFR. Rob Gurney noticed us and like the media slags we were back then we were happy to contribute opinions on what we'd just witnessed to be broadcast on his programme the following day.
Telfer and George Dalton (as I recall) emerged carrying the kit chest, my mate questioned Telfer's commitment to the game and was met with a "Piss off".
We decided to head back down the M1 post-haste when Peter Ndlovu's staring at us from inside the coach appeared to take on some kind of visual 'hex'.

Oggy as a player was ok not a bad stopper but a lousy kicker as showed when Hedman took over in goal (he could kick straight) ...he has been here IMHO too long now but maybe he is cheap so it looks like we are stuck with him for the time being

No, he made about 318 Premier League appearances, 90 per cent of them for Gordon Strachan who then took him to Celtic. He was liked by one manager, let's not get carried away. He was okay with glaring weaknesses at that level.
