Am I missing something? He's a less than 1 in 6 striker, spent most of his career in the championship, now he's 33 and just been released by an MLS side?

It's like we're back in L1/L2 again. I'd rather keep BTA.

He's not a striker, he's a LW who can also play in the number 10 role.

Isn't he pretty much an AM / LW rather than a striker?

Not sure about "spending most of his career in the championship" being a negative, when people have been saying we are crying out for experience.

He may turn out dog shit, he may be half decent playing in an AM role. Who knows.

But but we have Rudoni for that role. Play the 33 year old as the ten who can stay more up field with Simms holding up for him?

Crikey. We really are desperate.

So our Hamer replacement is a 33 year old Winger/Number 10, who couldn’t get a game in the MLS but it’s ok as he’s a good Cov lad

O’Hare had one of the best natural work rates I’ve ever seen. He also didn’t do much work in our own penalty box. I’ve no idea why we’d expect a post-MLS Jamie Paterson to start now.

Ofc not. I wasn’t trying to suggest they were. I was pointing to the similarity in context - out of contract players who had not been playing competitive football but were apparently available in a crisis.

I partly agree with you SBT, but that being said FL will have seen a lot of Paterson on the training ground in the last seven days, I am sure if he is signing him it's based on what he can see on the training ground and where he think's Paterson might play a part.

I can see how he’d fit in as an experienced replacement for Palmer’s minutes at AM, but he clearly has a lot of work to do to get match fit, and hopefully he’d take a wage cut.

Okay, so haven't got a pot to piss in potentially, but Lampard is going to waste that money on a player who has barely played in America because he's cheap? Doesn't seem to make sense, Lampard has constantly said he wants to add and improve the group, which is why I believe (and I could be wrong) that FL thinks Paterson will add something.

If this happens then he's cover at 10 and can sometimes allow Rudoni to play deeper

No anti Jamie Paterson but there are much more important positions to fill

To be fair top @Saddlebrains i don’t think Paterson will be breaking the bank and therefore it doesn’t really apply to deals of this size.

I’m less against this signing than I was the signing of Wagehorn.

Has a decent scoring record in this division and if he can get up to speed in a month or two his ability to be composed in front of goal might help us. Probably not a starter though.

I suppose you have given him the obligatory SBT zero minutes playing time, so only fair to cancel his contract with effect from yesterday.

My take on this is that it has been accepted that the season is over re play offs, so they will plug some gaps for now and wait until the summer to use any resources we may have including possible income from Vic move, etc.

Fair point, based on that, his goal contribution isn't bad. We don't need cover in his position though or at least we have bigger gaps.

That's what we need, another LW.

There is nothing wrong with spending a career in the championship but he's 33 now and plays in an advanced position. He will be in decline and considering his highest level was where we are now. Feels like a Derby/Plymouth/Oxford type signing or L1.

We need experience but in the right places. I'd take a 33 year old Championship CB.
