If a cart horse of a player like Wilfred Bony can command a transfer fee of 28 million what do we think some of our past players are worth, ones from when we were a top flight team? And this is supposing they wouldn't be undisclosed! I'll start us off.... Roy Wegerle, 7 million, any takers?

I wonder what Ndlovu would have gone for compared to players like Stirling.

The fact that the likes of Vardy are now in the England squad (yes he's had a good season and it's not about who he plays for) show the real decline of English football. Once teams sit back he is anonymous, completely anonymous.

The best England team I've seen was the euro 96 team. And just off the top of head.
Seaman, Adams, Pearce, Ince, Gazza, Sherringham, Shearer and maybe Macmanaman could of walked in that side last night. The ones left out Southgate, G Nev and Anderton Would of made the subs bench. So I think the decline in standards has definitely fallen.
25 mill for Denney should all tell us that, he would of not been in out top division 20 years ago.

Neville would stroll in to today's England team, he was a very very good right back. As much as Walker and Clyne are great going forward and athletic, Neville got forward very well himself.

Southgate would get into the side ahead of Smalling / Cahill and Anderton was better than Henderson.

I'll give you 10 shillings for Darby, no more, not when there's the Willie Bolands of this world out there

We sold Robbie Keane for "what was it" 12 or 13 million.

Wonder what he'd fetch now, obviously I'm on about at
The age he was then.

Tbf, that price in equivalent terms is very high. The world record at the time (2000) was £35m for Crespo. Keane's fee at about a third of that would be equivalent to £31m today against the world transfer record of £86m for Bale.

Surely we would be looking at £30 million+ for Dion Dublin if Deeney is a £20 million striker. Dion had a great top level scoring record, was capped, and was a very good centre half. "international class striker, world class centre back" was Strachan's view on him I think.

People at times bitched about Beckham - he was leagues ahead of nearly every England player in that squad today.

Garry Gillespie would be an interesting one to see how much he would be valued today. A really classy centre half.

On the alternative spectrum, players like Ashley Grimes, Wayne Turner, Graham Withey and Andy Spring (Bobby Gould era mark one) would still be worth bugger all.

I would imagine George Boetang' would command quite a fee, as would
Magnus Hedman.
