That’s nothing ,saw something on Click BBC news today.
Some technology available to Joe public where you can litrrally fake up video and dialogue as anyone.
Pretty scary and possibly dangerous.
Certain stars being faked up onto porn movies etc but could end up more Sinister.
However back on topic ,rediculous isn't it, then you wonder what it is they're saying that they'd fear exposing?

Agreed but it is many players over many games, can't all be work related can it.
Have to be some brilliant lip reading going on then someone who wants to exploit it .
Guess there will be an app around soon, if not already that can do it.
Maybe they're right lol? B-)

I’m sure I read once that most of the time, it’s so the other player can hear what they’re saying above the noise of the crowd

I'd say this is probably it. Part of my degree was acoustics and, because sound propagates in a sphere, directivity plays a large part in clarity and ensuring sound intensity isn't lost as quickly.

As you can tell I don't get invited to many parties...

Also I agree it looks stupid but I think I'd be pretty paranoid as a player these days if some of them are doing it to cover their mouths. All this sensationalist media and click bait you get, if Messi and Neymar were talking after a Barca v PSG match and Neymar says something innocuous like "This game was more difficult than the Madrid match", you just know someone is gonna see him say Madrid and next day you'll have some headlines like "NEYMAR FINDING LIFE AT PSG DIFFICULT, WANTS MADRID MOVE"

In fairness the media are mostly scum and would pay lip readers to get some scandal or even to say that player X was joking after a defeat etc. Might appear paranoid but can't blame them.
